Ready to book your summer holiday? If you’re thinking of travelling to Lanzarote, you might want to up your savings.

That’s because the cost of a hotel room in the much loved Canary Island has soared in price, so your break might be more expensive than planned.

New figures have revealed a 15.5% increase in hotel prices from November 2022- when you could book a room for £94 per night – to a whopping £109 in 2023.

This means that costs have skyrocketed in the past ten years, as the average in 2013 was a much more affordable £52.

In 2023, the most affordable months of the year to book a room were off-season during May and June, when prices averaged between £101 and £104.

Likewise, June actually saw the narrowest price increase compared with 2022, of just 2.4%.

Prices are so steep, that last month representatives from TUI, Jet2 and Ryanair urged hospitality industry bosses in Lanzarote, as well as those in Tenerife and Fuerteventura, to ‘exercise restraint’, asking they take into account the economic challenges faced by tourists from the UK and Germany – the islands’ two biggest markets for tourism.

However, employers defended the costs, saying it was all a part of supply and demand.

As we head into the peak time for holiday bookings, it’s likely that many Brits will flock to Lanzarote in 2024. The tourism industry brought €2.5 billion to the island during the first three quarters of 2023, and in June 2023 the British made up over half of the tourists at 125,808 or 52.12%.
