The police force in Los Angeles has shared an update on the investigation that was being conducted into the death of Matthew Perry.
In October last year, it was confirmed that the Friends star, who played Chandler Bing in the globally-beloved sitcom, had died aged 54.
It was later announced that his death had been ruled an accident from the ‘acute effects of ketamine’, after he was found ‘unresponsive’ in the pool at his home.
The Los Angeles Police Department has now revealed that the investigation into his death has officially been concluded, People reported.
On the website for the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner, it states that the case into Perry’s death is ‘closed’.
After the 17 Again star’s body was found, the initial results of his autopsy were described as ‘inconclusive’.
A post-mortem examination later outlined that contributing factors to his death included ‘drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine’ – which is used to treat pain and opioid use disorders.
The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner said in a statement: ‘The manner of death is an accident.’
Senior deputy medical examiner Raffi Djabourian’s summary detailed: ‘At the high levels of ketamine found in his post-mortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression.
‘Drowning contributes due to the likelihood of submersion into the pool as he lapsed into unconsciousness; coronary artery disease contributes due to exacerbation of ketamine-induced myocardial effects on the hearts.’
In the report, it said that Perry had been receiving ‘ketamine unfision therapy for depression and anxiety’, with his last-known treatment said to have taken place a week and a half before his death.
It was ruled that ‘the ketamine in his system at death could not be from that infusion therapy’, but the report was not able to specify the ‘exact method of intake’ in the late actor’s case.
No evidence was found of alcohol, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, PCP, or fentanyl.
The report suggests Perry had been ‘reportedly clean for 19 months’ from drug use.
Jennifer Aniston, Perry’s co-star in Friends and a close friend in real life, recently revealed that she had spoken to him on the day of his death.
‘He was happy. He was healthy. He had quit smoking,’ the 54-year-old told Variety in December.
‘He was happy – that’s all I know. I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy.
‘…I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard. He really was dealt a tough one.’
