David Tennant will be dusting off his snazziest jacket as he makes his debut as host at the 2024 EE Bafta Film Awards next month.

The Doctor Who star, 52, who recently made a triumphant return to his career-making role for the show’s 60th anniversary, has been a recipient of both nominations and awards from Bafta Cymru and Bafta Scotland.

However, this is his first time taking to the stage to shepherd what is one of the biggest – and glitziest – nights in British showbiz.

He’s following in the footsteps of last year’s hosts, Alison Hammond and Richard E. Grant – who also received support from Ariana DeBose’s memorable rap.

‘I am delighted to have been asked to host the EE BAFTA Film Awards and help celebrate the very best of this year’s films and the many brilliant people who bring them to life,’ the Good Omens actor said as he was announced in the role.

That thrill goes both ways as Bafta CEO Jane Millichip shared that Bafta was ‘over the moon’ that Tennant would be hosting the Film Awards.

‘He is deservedly beloved by British and international audiences, alike. His warmth, charm and mischievous wit will make it a must-watch show next month for our guests at the Royal Festival Hall and the millions of people watching at home,’ she added.

Tennant’s extensive career in film and TV includes Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Broadchurch and popular BBC pandemic hit Staged, in which he appears with Good Omens co-star Michael Sheen and his real-life wife Georgia Tennant, who he met and married through Doctor Who.
