Dark fringing, vintage appliances, aluminium furniture and jellyfish motifs are just a taste of what to expect next year, when it comes to the world of interiors.
Pinterest has just unveiled its top trends for 2024, shedding light on how we’ll be styling our homes over the next 12 months.
On the whole it seems minimalist aesthetics are out and eye-catching, bold colour and quirky themes are in. So it’s well and truly time to wave goodbye to cottagecore and cosy neutrals.
When it comes to interior choices in 2024, the bigger the better.
Below are the five different home trends we’ll be seeing more of as the months go on.
Kitschens
Sleek, minimalist kitchens are out the window, according to Pinterest it’s time to get quirky and kitsch.
‘This year, Gen X and Boomers will spruce up their cooking areas with thrifted finds, vintage appliances and jarring pops of paint,’ says the platform.
More is more as eccentricity and elevation is in.
Western goth
A brand new hybrid trend has landed, fusing two of the popular fashion aesthetics of the year.
According to Pinterest Western goth is a mixture of ‘vintage Americana chic with deep, moody hues.’ So think dark paint and fringing galore – alongside Western mirrors and bedding.
Yeehaw.
Hot Metals
The next year will see people trading in go-to neutrals for something a whole lot shinier.
Melty metallics are set to be another rising interior trend that’s coming in hot, with aluminium furniture replacing woods. Mirrors, bookcases, lamps and side tables are all set to get a metallic makeover.
Be jelly
Mushroom motifs may have been over the past 12 months, but it looks like 2024 is set to be the year of the jellyfish.
According to Pinterest, ‘Gen Z and Millennials are driving this squishy aesthetic’ – with searches for jellyfish lamps up 95%.
Aquatecture
The humble fish tank gets an upgrade as ‘aquatic architecture’ is dubbed as another top trend by the brand.
The team say: ‘This year, Gen X and Millennials will become undersea gardeners and commit to “small aquarium designs” and over-the-top “turtle terrariums”. In 2024, aquatic architecture will be the hot new way to style a home.’
Searches for ‘fish tank theme ideas’ are up by more than 400%, so it’s clear people are channeling their creativity into their aquatic set-ups.
