Jackie Chan has become the talk of the internet after a video went viral and prompted speculation about his relationship with his daughter, or rather lack of relationship.

The martial artist, 69, has two children: Etta Ng Chok Lam, 23, and Jaycee Chan, 40.

However, he has no relationship with Etta, who is now thought to be living in poverty in Canada with her wife and has previously accused her family of homophobia.

This week, a clip of Jackie and what was thought to be his daughter Etta did the rounds on Twitter, as it captured a sweet moment between the pair.

The emotional video shows Jackie and a young woman crying while re-watching some of his old movie scenes.

‘Papa, you’re awesome,’ she tells him with a smile before they link arms and both start weeping.

It was hailed ‘the most wholesome thing you’ll watch today’ by the original poster, with the video clocking up over 50million views.

But, the young woman in the video is not Etta. She is an actress.

The video garnered so much attention that context has since been added to the original tweet for clarification.

It reads: ‘Jackie Chan has been estranged from his daughter for decades, allegedly due to his affair with her mother and discomfort with her sexuality. The video is from a movie wherein Jackie Chan, playing a stuntman, watches his old movies with his daughter – the actress Liu Haocun.’

Naturally, the viral tweet has caused a stir, with social media users quick to remind others about the alleged disowning of Etta by her father.

‘Google exists. That’s not his daughter. He disowned his actual daughter for being gay. Jackie Chan sucks in real life’, one person tweeted.

‘Jackie Chan was literally a childhood hero to me I saw ALL his movies… When I got my black belt I wanted to do what he did. I did his stunts in my mom’s living room and broke a lot of furniture as a result. To find he disowned his daughter for being gay is a HUGE let down’, another wrote.

‘Finding out Jackie Chan disowned his OWN daughter because she was gay & she been living on the streets homeless ever since while his net worth is 400m was not on my 2023 bingo card…’, one added.

Etta was conceived during an extra-marital affair Jackie had with model and actress Elaine Ng Yi-Lei.

The affair was only discovered because Elaine had given birth to a daughter in 1999, with Jackie married to Taiwanese actress Joan Lin at the time. Having wed in 1982, Jackie and Joan are still together.

Jackie has spoken about his affair publicly before, admitting he’s ‘not a saint’.

The Hong Kong-born actor reportedly said in a press conference: ‘I’ve done something wrong. I’ve done something that many men in the world have done. Maybe it was a moment of playfulness.’

Speaking out, in 2015, Etta confirmed that she has no relationship with her father.

‘He is my biological father but he is not in my life,’ she said, as per E! News.

‘He never existed in my life. I will never regard him as a father.’

However, she insisted she is ‘not angry’ with him as she has ‘never wished to see him’.

‘As long as I have my mother with me, I don’t need my father.’

Then in 2017, Etta uploaded a video to YouTube in a desperate plea, the same year she came out as a lesbian.

‘Hi, I’m Jackie Chan’s daughter, and this is my girlfriend,’ she said.

‘We’ve been homeless for a month due to homophobic parents. We pretty much slept under a bridge and other things.’

The pair asked for help in the video and in October last year, she was photographed in Canada queuing for free food at a soup kitchen.

At the time time, though, her wife, Andi Autumn, took to the Chinese social media site Weibo to dismiss rumors that they’re homeless.

She called their life together ‘blissful’ and insisted there was no need to ‘worry’.

Representatives for Jackie Chan have been contacted for comment.
