Vicky Pattison embarked on a modern-day catholic pilgrimage, which has changed her perspective on religion.
The trip, which was filmed for BBC’s Pilgrimage: The road through Portugal, offered Vicky the chance to reflect on her own relationship with a higher power.
‘I think I’ve come out feeling like I would like to have something to believe in properly,’ she explained.
The 35-year-old has begun to wonder if religion may bring some contentment to her everyday life, and offer more guidance.Â
‘I’ve never been sure about anything in my life, wondering if I am living my life the right way, all these silly questions constantly run through my head and it’s just exhausting.’
Vicky, who is open about her mental health struggles, was particularly interested in her co-stars, mathematician Bobby Seagull and comedian Nabil Abdulrashid’s beliefs.
‘In every walk of life, Bobby and Nabil are different. But they have [faith] in common.’
The reality star, who found fame on Geordie Shore, continued: ‘Even though their religions are different, it doesn’t matter. I think it brings you good comfort, calm, solace. They just seem to have it figured out.’Â
‘I reckon it’s made me far more open to the idea of finding a religion. I’d love to have the sort of thing that they’ve got.’
Vicky was also joined on the trip by Su Pollard, Rita Simons, Shane Lynch and Millie Knight.
The group of celebrities followed Portugal’s Northern Way for 14 days. Theytraveled for 226 miles by foot, road and train, before arriving at the famous Sanctuary in the city of Fatima. The location has religious significance as in 1917, three local shepherd children reported seeing the Virgin Mary.
Vicky found the whole experience ‘emotional’, and was surprised by the aspects she found tough.Â

‘I was expecting it to be really physically tough but actually, the thing I struggled with most was the emotional highs and lows, thinking about my lack of faith, really, and whether I’ve been missing something.’
‘It was an amazing experience,’ she concluded.Â
