In Dawson’s Creek, Kerr Smith’s shy and sensitive character Jack McPhee was a fan favourite.
He was also a groundbreaking character – as Jack coming to terms with being gay resulted in the first ever US network passionate kiss in May 2000.
As one of the most defining faces in the teen drama, the possibilities were endless for the actor – so what did Kerr get up to next?
Well, turns out he’s returned to his roots, and alongside some fantasies and dramas, he’s now come full circle in another teen favourite.
Here are some of the major roles you can spot him in following his time on the Creek.
Charmed (2004 – 2005)
As Kyle Brody, Kerr became the romantic interest for Paige Matthews (Rose McGowan).
A Homeland Security agent, Kyle was mortal when we first meet him, with interest in the paranormal, bringing him to the sisters.
He was later killed but became a whitelighter for the good he did in the world, and then later became a member of the Council of Elders.
Basically, he was a solid dude, and our hearts are always tugged when we rewatch moments between him and Paige.
Justice (2006 – 2007)
Another man of morals, Tom Nicholson is a small town lawyer in the big city of Los Angeles, who only defends clients he believes are innocent.
However, he had some levels of prejudice and that would soon come back to haunt him in his work as a lawyer.
His American Sweetheart persona is often used to the advantage of the legal team, who use him to charm the jury.
Life Unexpected (2010 – 2011)
Appearing in the show’s entire run, Kerr appeared alongside Britt Robertson in this teen drama for The CW.
The story follows Lux Cassidy, a teenager who tracks down the parents who gave her up for adoption as a baby in order to become emancipated.
He plays Ryan, an emotional support for the confused teenager and fiance of his mother Cate, who’s a radio host.
However, he also has his own demons and troubles, and is struggling with his own relationship with Cate.
The Fosters (2014 – 2018)
Joining the series in season two, Robert Quinn is the secret biological father of fostered daughter Callie – and later tries to win custody of her in court.
However, after seeing the happy life she has as part of the family, he decides to let her stay in the most stable life she’s known.
He then gives up his parental rights, allowing lesbian couple Stef and Lena, who look after the foster kids, to effectively adopt her permanently.
Riverdale (2019-2020)
Principal Holden Honey is not one to be messed with, and joined the series in season four as the new head of Riverdale High.
A disciplinarian to his core, he doesn’t take kindly to Archie and the gang’s criminal activities, general school bunking, and behaviour of the students.
They don’t take kindly when he starts removing social events including prom, and soon take matters into their own hands.
In fact, he’s kind of the good guy in a lot of ways as he always has a solid reason behind his actions, but the others don’t see it like that.
Dawson’s Creek is now available on Netflix.
