A swingers club is under pressure to cancel a two-day festival promising fire breathers, live DJs and an ‘adult bouncy castle’ over concerns it will break coronavirus restrictions.
The HU9 club in Hull, says its annual Swing Fest event provides as ‘very discrete and fun, safe environment’ and an opportunity for guests to ‘take swinging to the next level’.
But one swinger, who is also an NHS worker, says holding the event at the end of August would be ‘irresponsible’ and claimed attendees have ‘no intention of social distancing’.
They told HullLive: ‘While we are being told we must wear face masks in shops to limit the spread of the virus the HU9 sex club is heavily promoting their Swing Fest event at the end of next month.
‘Many hundreds are attending the two-day sold out event, booked into local hotels have no intention of socially distancing. I am a swinger myself but I am also an NHS worker. The level of risk the clubs owners and their attendees are taking is totally irresponsible.’
The anonymous swinger said any outbreaks as a result of the sex festival would impact residents of the East Yorkshire city and asked why people would ‘risk such a ridiculous event in pursuit of their sexual gratification.’
Swing Fest also promises a light show, a large stage and tribute acts. One advertisement for the event says: ‘We have a great mix of swingers coming from all round the country to our festival.’
A spokesperson for HU9 told the Mirror it was in talks with Hull City Council to see what measures could be put in place to keep the event safe.
He said he didn’t think it would be going ahead and didn’t elaborate any further.
A Hull City Council spokeswoman said: ‘The owner of the venue has been advised by Environmental Health of the current Covid-19 restrictions imposed on gatherings and activities.
‘The authority has been made aware by the venue of an event that is being planned end of August involving members of public. We have had initial discussions with the operator.
‘Once further detailed information is received, like all events, it will consider this further in relation to the proposed event being compliant with current restrictions imposed by Covid-19 and advice on any public safety issues.’
The council says the private members club would be classed as a sexual entertainment venue, which are currently not allowed to re-open under the UK’s lockdown rules.
In June Europe’s largest swinging festival was cancelled after organisers admitted it would be impossible to socially distance at an orgy.
The team behind the Aurora Lifestyle Festival said they were not prepared to offer a ‘poor replica’ of the event, which was held last year in Malvern, Worcestershire.
Organisers said there was no way they could safeguard attendees from coronavirus, but promised the festival would be ‘bigger and better next year’.
