Episode one of a documentary about the life and career of reality TV star Jade Goody will be airing on Channel 4.

The first part of Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain is due to air tonight, August 7, and it will explore the complicated and tragic story of one of the UK’s most beloved yet controversial reality TV stars.

Jade shot to fame following her appearance on Big Brother 3, and dominated headlines all the way up until her death from cancer at a young age.

As we wait for the documentary to air, here’s a reminder of when Jade died and the family she sadly left behind…

When did Jade Goody die of cancer?

Jade died of cervical cancer on 22 March 2009 when she was 27 years old.

She underwent chemotherapy and surgery after her diagnosis in 2008, but by February 2009, the cancer had spread to her bowel, liver and groin.

According to The Sun, Jade’s mum Jackiey Budden has said in the upcoming documentary that Jade believed her cancer was ‘punishment’ for her treatment of Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007.

During Jade’s time on CBB, she contravercially referred to Shilpa as ‘Shilpa Poppadum’, and told her that that she needed a ‘day in the slums’.

This eventually led to her eviction from the Big Brother House.

How many children did Jade Goody have and how old are they now?

Jade had two children with her ex Jeff BrazierBobby, who is now 16, and Freddie, who is 14.

She is also survived by her husband Jack Tweed.
