Sir Alex Ferguson made his way into Manchester United’s dressing room to congratulate the squad on their incredible win against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Scot travelled with the squad to Paris and was in attendance in the Parc des Princes to watch his old side make history.
United became the first club in the competition’s history to recover from a two-goal defeat at home to progress in the second leg thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku [x2] in the 3-1 win.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reintegrated Ferguson into the United set-up since replacing Jose Mourinho in mid-December and the Scot had even been lined up to deliver a team talk before tonight’s game before the Norwegian decided against it.
Solskjaer admitted afterwards that it was his greatest achievment yet as a manager and revealed that Ferguson had visited the dressing room for the first time.
‘Tonight is one we have to remember, it’s a fantastic night,’ said Solskjaer.
‘The spirit of Manchester United. It’s great to see the boss in there after the game for the first time. The lads were just absolutely magnificent.’
Asked if he had spoken to Ferguson, Solskjaer replied: ‘You don’t make chats now, it’s too noisy but it’s great to see the boss in there.’
United players could be heard chanting Solskjaer’s name in the dressing room and singing his chant after the win.
The Norwegian is a virtual certainty to land the job on a permanent basis and he admits his relationship with the squad is a close one.
‘We have a good relationship I have to say, it’s been fantastic coaching them,’ said Solskajer.
‘Being underdogs is not usual for us at Manchester United but it was nice today, there were a lot of young players and it’s nice not to have anything to lose.’
