Paris Saint-Germain suffered a devastating defeat to Manchester United in the Champions League on Wednesday night, and things are about to get even more unpleasant for them if Marquinhos has his way.
United sensationally overcame a 2-0 home loss by beating PSG 3-1 in Paris to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Two goals from Romelu Lukaku and a 94th minute penalty from Marcus Rashford sent the Red Devils into the last eight and left the Ligue 1 champions crestfallen at the Parc des Princes.
PSG defender Marquinhos believes there is only one way for his side to get over the humiliating defeat, and it sounds pretty grim.
‘The game we played was unforgivable,’ the Brazilian said after the game.
‘We have to analyse, think and we have to be men. It’s a difficult moment.
We had to give everything on the pitch. Now it’s over, we cannot say ‘You had to do that, you had to do this’.
‘These are still details, and it’s always the case at the high level. I think it’s a good time not to talk too much. As we say in Brazil, it’s time to eat our own s***.
‘It’s a s***** moment and we have to keep working.’
The win for United was all the more incredible given they were missing a string of first team players through injury and key midfielder Paul Pogba through suspension.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finished the game with teenagers Tahith Chong, Mason Greenwood and Diogo Dalot on the pitch, while Scott McTominay and Fred completed the full 90 in central midfield.
It was also a history-making result as United became the first team ever in the Champions League to progress after losing the first leg by two or more goals at home.
United will learn their fate in the quarters when the draw is made on 15 March in Nyon.
