Love Island’s Chris Hughes wants to trade in Majorca for Manchester and revealed he hopes to join Coronation Street.

Following his stint as a reality star, Chris clearly fancies a change of pace – and figures the deadly cobbled street might be just what he needs.

He told BANG! Showbiz: ‘I feel like I’ve gained a lot of experience in front of the camera already. I wouldn’t mind being on Coronation Street, I watch it religiously, my mum is a big ‘Corrie’ fan as well.’

Praising the hard-hitting drama, he said: ‘It’s a powerful soap. The only problem is that I haven’t quite got that northern accent.’

‘I wouldn’t like to be a villain,’ he added. ‘That’s because I’m just not really a villain; I’m just too nice for that. They need some new characters; I could freshen up the cobbles!’

The West Country lad added that he hopes his mate Colson Smith – who plays Craig Tinker, can pull some strings in order to get him on the ITV soap.

‘I’m actually good friends with Colson Smith, who plays Craig, I keep in touch with him and he came and watched me in the boat race for Sport Relief that I did up in Manchester.

‘I’ve also met Lucy Fallon who plays Bethany Platt. I’m friends with a few people on it now, I met quite a lot of them at the National Television Awards.’

Chris and his now ex-girlfriend Olivia Attwood came in second on Love Island last year, and lasted until January before they went their separate ways.

Now, a whole new set of Islanders are going to follow in their footsteps when the show returns next year.

With Corrie becoming home to more than one reality stars-turned-actors during their day – with Shayne Ward and Kym Marsh among those who made their names on TV competitions before bagging their place on the cobbles – it could happen.

Maybe he can be Rosie Webster’s new boy toy when Helen Flanagan returns from her maternity leave?
