The first reviews for Solo: A Star Wars Story have appeared following last night’s premiere in Hollywood.
While official reviews for the film don’t hit until 15 May, the social media embargo was lifted by Disney last night so fans who have managed to see the spin-off could share their reaction.
According to those who watched the blockbuster, although it starts out a little slow, once Donald Glover – who plays Lando Calrissian in the movie – shows up, it’s everything you could want from a Star Wars movie.
Take a look below:
The first act of SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY can be hit and miss clunky. But once Donald Glover’s Lando shows up (who is legit fantastic) and the Kessel Run heist plot kicks in, it’s a whole lot of fun. (And those who’ve always wanted a Han and Chewbacca shower scene are in luck.)

Wow. Just come out of #SoloAStarWarsStory and can confirm itâs kinda a blast. @donaldglover was as perfect as expected, but Alden Ehrenreich has swagger to match, and spare.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is… fine. It’s slow to find its footing, but picks up in the second act, and it’s definitely fun. Has the occasional prequel problem answering questions I didn’t need answers to, but also some fun references. Overall I liked it, didn’t love it pic.twitter.com/dV02yRYueA

Mark Hamill, Ewan McGregor and Game of Thrones actress Emila Clarke were among the stars to attend the premiere in Hollywood last night.
Mark, 66, who played the legendary Luke Skywalker in the first Star Wars trilogy, was joined by Scottish actor Ewan, 47, who played a younger version of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy.
Emilia dressed to the nines for the star-studded event, and looked effortlessly glam in a red floral gown.
The movie is the second film to enter the Star Wars Stories franchise but it has been plagued by production problems, as directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired by LucasFilm near the end of production over what was blamed as creative differences, while star Alden Ehrenreich was rumoured to have been given an acting coach.
Still, excitement for the film is growing, and UK fans will get to see Solo: A Star Wars Story a day earlier than other locations, after Disney revealed Howard’s spin-off movie will now be released on May 24, one day earlier than originally planned.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will be released 24 May in the UK.
