MVNO Europe: Draghi’s recommendations undermine the crucial role competition can play in fostering innovation, investments, and the interests of both consumers and businesses. MVNO Europe (European Association of MVNOs) says it is deeply concerned by Mr. #Draghi’s recommendations for the telecom sector, in particular its focus on consolidation of the industry in the hands of a few large operators, and proposals to modify spectrum policy and competition policy to artificially drive such consolidation. "We regret to see that the telecom chapter of the Draghi’s report blatantly ignores the value of competition as a driver for investments and innovation, unlike other chapters of the same study." MVNO Europe would like to highlight that MVNOs do contribute significantly to financing infrastructure by paying substantial wholesale fees to Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) for network access (MVNOs pay MNOs for each minute/SMS/megabyte used). This aligns with Commissioner-designate Virkkunen’s mission to incentivize investments in digital infrastructure, demonstrating that MVNOs play an active role in sustaining Europe’s telecom infrastructure and should not be disregarded. #MVNO Europe regrets the report’s misleading association between the number of operators, including MVNOs, the European telecom sector’s alleged low profitability, and its alleged underperformance. The report’s call for change to EU policy and regulation to artificially favor the largest operators echoes the narrative advanced by ETNO (now Connect Europe). The suggestion that Europe has “too many” operators compared to the US and China ignores the value and welfare that competition brings to the market and misrepresents the impact of policies, legislation and regulation designed to foster it. Contrary to the report’s suggestion that Europe is lagging behind, many EU Member States in fact are leaders in both 5G and fiber deployment in international comparisons, and at the same time in offering choice, innovation and value for money to users (consumers, businesses and administrations). Ukrtelecom is in TOP-3 largest telecom providers in Ukraine   The demand for GPON technology has increased significantly because of the blackouts throughout the country. Providers using this non-volatile technology have queues lasting several weeks. Forbes Ukraine has collected a selection of the 15 largest operators.   According to Forbes Ukraine almost 4,000 companies operate on the Ukrainian market, five of which are national operators. The rest are regional operators that provide services in one or two regions.   Ukrtelecom has seen a surge of optical Internet connections. Compared to the past, there has been a 16% increase in the number of new subscribers of the mass segment, small and medium-sized enterprises, to the high-speed optical Internet in the first half of this year. This category of users saw a 15.5% increase in revenue from the provision of optical Internet services. Among large enterprises, the number of new optical subscribers increased by 37.5% in the first half of the year, and the corresponding income increased by 34%.   We are ready for long power outages and are able to provide continuous access to our services for most subscribers! We had a good start to the year! Orange Polska reported solid results in #1Q2024, both financial as well as commercial. Operational profitability EBITDAaL increased by nearly 5% year-on-year. The most important result of the quarter is that revenues from our core telco services are solid and continued their strong performance growing by more than 4% year-on-year. All our key services gain new customers and build value.  This quarter was not without headwinds that affected our total revenues evolution year-on-year, particularly our IT&IS business that facing a cyclical slowdown due to broader IT market dynamic and lower demand from public sector. This business line was an important growth driver in the past and will remain a key focus for us, as we are confident that the integrated IT services and solutions will generate significant value in the future.   Thanks to investments in the development and quality of our network, customers have gained access to the latest technologies. We have already made available the best 5G mobile connectivity at speed of up to over 1 Gb/s, on approximately 1,400 base stations in over 160 cities and towns in Poland. We also started offering ultrafast optical fiber with speeds of up to 8 Gb/s, meeting the needs of the most demanding users.   Our customers are increasingly using digital tools such as My Orange App or buying our service and products online - last quarter already 23% of sales acts were made in digital channels. We concluded at the beginning of this month a much-awaited step: the merger of Orange Romania and Orange Romania Communications. Two different companies, with different personalities & specificities, reuniting the best telecom experts in mobile and fixed field in one strong organization. But did you know that our common history began more than 100 years ago? First telephone lines were set up in Transylvania in 1881, the first automatic technical installation is installed in 1906, with 20 numbers, and in 1910 the manual technical central is installed in Sinaia. After that, the roaring 20’s brought in Little Paris top-notch technologies of the moment, that redefined the communication for thousands of people, later amplified in Palatul Telefoanelor. It was the first skyscraper in Bucharest & an emblematic building of this bustling city, changing its reputation to Little New York. What followed next was a rapid evolution of technology unfolding through our eyes, leading us to what telecommunications is nowadays. I am proud that Orange is part of such an important Romanian history. Mobile services are the best valued by Spaniards consumers, compared with other utilities, but if you look to main reasons for dissatisfaction with services (percentage of households/individuals, IV Quarter 2023) it looks like pricing is the key, as Fixed Broadband, Mobile Internet and Mobile Telephony receive the worst valorations in terms of Service Quality! Maybe this justifies the low cost battle and the continuous growth of MVNOs (with a main focus on low prices).
