TITLE: FLAGGER
REPORTS TO: SUPERINTENDENT OR LAYDOWN FOREMAN
JOB PURPOSE:
To direct traffic as assigned, in a safe and efficient manner.
JOB DUTIES: *1.
Performs a combination of physical tasks, including, but not limited to, the following:* · hand and arm movements with and without flag · operate pilot car in safe manner · walks to various sites as directed.
*2.
Uses tools and equipment to accomplish tasks, such as:* · *flag as approved by IDOT* · *hi-vis reflective vest* · *hard hat or other hat for protection from sun* · *sunscreen or sunglasses* · *water bottle* · *several layers of clothing* · *comfortable, composite or steel-toe shoes* · *pilot car.
* *3.
Cooperates with supervisor/co-workers to achieve work assignments.
* *4.
Attends safety meetings as required.
* *5.
Uses personal protective equipment as required.
* *JOB REQUIREMENTS:* *1.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
* *2.
Ability to use, or learn how to use, tools and equipment.
* *3.
Ability to learn and use basic knowledge about road construction.
* *4.
Ability to be mobile throughout the work site.
* *5.
Ability to understand and perform work instructions according to* *directions from supervisor.
* *6.
Ability to understand and observe safety rules/regulations.
* *7.
Ability to be available for work daily and overtime as required; including* *weekend work.
* *8.
Ability to assist in work related areas as needed.
* *9.
Ability to travel to work site(s) as required and stay overnight if necessary.
* *10.
Ability to be alert to potential hazards in the work area.
* *11.
Ability to work in extreme heat and cold.
* *12.
To take initiative in regards to what needs to be done next (looking ahead) and remain productive throughout the work day.
* *13.
Ability/skill and responsibility to maintain control over traffic in a professional and safe manner.
* *14.
Be aware and warn all roller operators of deep asphalt fills or soft edges with steep drop offs.
Due to the possibility of tipping the roller over in these situations.
* *15.
Have respect for other peoples property, treat it as your own or better.
No debris, garbage, marks on the lawn (keep equipment off of lawn).
* *16.
Lookout man for potential hazards such as:* · *Overhead electrical lines, etc.
* · *Tree branches* · *Pinch points of all kinds (equipment and vehicle to vehicle situation).
* *17.
Ability/skill to properly load equipment on a variety of company trailers in a safe manner (both for employee safety and haul safety), and operate the loading and binding tools in the same manner.
* *BASIC PHYSICAL DEMANDS:* This job involves strenuous physical work requiring frequent and sometimes continuous physical activity, and extended periods of time sitting while operating a vehicle over rough terrain.
*KEY:* Occasional = 1 to 33% Frequently = 34 to 66% Continuous = 67 to 100% *APPROXIMATE:* 10 - 14 Hour Day *VISION:* Good or corrected vision to normal range; ability to meet DOT standards.
*HEARING:* Good or corrected hearing to normal range to hear oral instructions, warnings, sound signals.
*SITTING/DRIVING VEHICLE:* Continuous (if pilot car, otherwise occasional) *STANDING: * Occasional (if pilot car, otherwise continuous) *WALKING: * Occasional *BEND/KNEEL/CROUCH:* Occasional *REACHING ABOVE SHOULDER: *Occasional *CLIMBING:* Occasional *LIFTING: * 1 TO 25 LBS.

*WORK CONDITIONS:* This is an outdoor physical job working in: Seasonal weather conditions; heavy equipment areas; wind; dirt; mud, etc.

*SAFETY TRAINING:* Employees will be trained in the following areas: Hazardous communication; Safety Manual; Lock Out Tag Out (as needed); Respirators (as needed); Safety Meetings.

*QUALIFICATIONS:* The qualifications are to have and maintain a current Class C driving license which is required when operating the pilot car.
