       getpid — get the process ID

SYNOPSIS         top

       pid_t getpid(void);

DESCRIPTION         top

       The getpid() function shall return the process ID of the calling
       process.

RETURN VALUE         top

       The getpid() function shall always be successful and no return
       value is reserved to indicate an error.
