Our journey at #COP16Riyadh is in full swing, marked by valuable participation and impactful dialogue! Yesterday, Hanane Mourchid, our Chief Sustainability & Innovation Officer shared her expertise in two pivotal discussions: 🟢 Unlocking Co-benefits for #Soil, #Water, and #Farmer Resilience In this session organized by World Economic Forum, we delved into the transformative power of regenerative agriculture to restore degraded lands and enhance farmer resilience. Hanane emphasized: “Empowering farmers with the right tools to improve #soilhealth is critical in fighting desertification. At OCP, we champion multi-stakeholder collaboration, providing farmers with access not only to affordable plant nutrition solutions, but also to financial and insurance support, training, and market reach. We customize our fertilizers to the specific need of their soils and crops, thereby ensuring the optimal use of #nutrients both to maximize yields and to foster the long-term health of the soil.” 🟢 Innovation in Green Food and Water: The Middle East, China, and Emerging Markets In this panel hosted by World Economic Forum and Boston Consulting Group (BCG), we explored green transitions in #food and #water systems. Hanane’s keynote speech highlighted: “In the face of intensifying droughts, integrating water and energy plans is essential to build resilience. At OCP, we have adopted an integrated approach to secure green water supplies not only for our own facilities, but also to meet the needs of our local communities, by providing them with drinkable water, using #cleanenergy.” At OCP Group, we are dedicated to driving collaboration and #innovation for a #sustainablefuture. #COP16Riyadh #OurLandOurFuture

Did you know that 95% of our food supply relies on healthy soils, yet nearly a third of agricultural land is degraded? As we face increasing pressure on #FoodSystems, enhancing soil health through effective nutrient management based on customized plant nutrition solutions is crucial. Healthy soils are vital for #FoodSecurity and climate goals, supporting biodiversity and productivity. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has called soil “the foundation for the future.” 🌍 The 2024 African Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit committed to regenerating soils and tripling fertilizer production by 2034. #SoilHealth and plant nutrition solutions use can rejuvenate soils, close yield gaps, and increase soil fertility—a triple win for farmers. Farmers in #Africa should not be the only ones to bear the responsibility for improving soil health. It is important that programs that support agriculture must also prioritize soil health initiatives and ensure there is financing in place to support these programmes. We are pleased to announce that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (#EBRD) is providing a €200 million loan to OCP Group for new desalination facilities in #Morocco. This will enhance water security and promote sustainable resource management. The new facilities, at #JorfLasfar and #Safi, will have a combined capacity of some 35 million m³ and will play a crucial role in supporting OCP Group’s fertilizer production – essential for global #FoodSecurity – while reducing the use of freshwater. This initiative underscores our commitment to addressing #water scarcity and fostering sustainable industrial solutions. At OCP Group, we are dedicated to minimizing our water footprint, targeting a reduction of 3 million m³ in annual water consumption and reaching a use of 100% non-conventional water by the end of this year. 📍#PPF – Paris At the Forum de Paris sur la Paix, Leonardus Vergütz, Chief Innovation Officer at OCP Group, highlighted the transformative potential of African agriculture through two pivotal panels. During the panel on “Unlocking african agriculture for development, sustainability, and global stability,” Mr. Vergütz stressed #soilhealth as a cornerstone for achieving sustainability and stability through climate-resilient agriculture. "Nutrition security begins with healthy #soils. In the one-health approach, soil health is essential, as it ensures the right balance of #nutrients and #micronutrients needed for crops, animals, and people to thrive. Without fertile, nutrient-rich soils, we cannot achieve the nutrition security vital for human and environmental well-being." In today's panel, “African smallholder farmers: What financing for what practices?”, he emphasized the urgent need for innovative, tailored financing solutions to empower #smallholderfarmers. "Africa's soils, among the oldest and most nutrient-deprived in the world, pose a significant barrier to higher agricultural yields. To break the cycle of low productivity and poverty, #Africa needs a locally adapted agricultural transformation that makes productive farming accessible and affordable," he explained. Mr. Vergütz also stressed that "addressing Africa’s agricultural challenges requires a collaborative effort between public, private, and development sectors to share risks and pool resources. Initiatives like the OCP-World Bank partnership are key to securing the necessary funding and support for farmers, driving long-term impact and #sustainablegrowth."
