On Friday, we witnessed an unprecedented global IT outage that left computers worldwide repeatedly crashing and displaying the infamous 'blue screen of death'. 💻 Australia was the first to experience the impact, but soon the chaos spread to the US, UK, Europe, and other countries. 💻 What Happened? The source of the outage was identified as CrowdStrike's Falcon platform, a robust cybersecurity solution with virus protection and real-time monitoring capabilities. Businesses worldwide encountered the dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) when booting PCs crucial for managing infrastructure. 🔍 Global Impact Australia: Airlines, banks, and TV operators were the first to report the issue. Europe: Major airlines like Ryanair faced similar disruptions. U.S.: Delta, United, and American Airlines experienced communication blackouts. Emergency services like 911 hotline centers in Alaska were also affected. 💡 Lessons Learned This event underscores the importance of having robust backup systems and regularly maintaining and updating tech infrastructure. Companies like Meta, Google, and Tesla have also faced similar challenges, emphasizing the need for reliable tech solutions. Fruit d’une collaboration tripartite entre le Ministère de la Transition Numérique et de la Réforme de l'Administration, le Ministère de l'Enseignement Supérieur, de la Recherche Scientifique et de l'Innovation, et Oracle.   Cette collaboration s’inscrit dans la vision du Ministère de la Transition Numérique et de la Réforme de l’Administration d’augmenter le nombre de compétences et de talents formés dans les métiers du digital afin d’accompagner la transition numérique engagée par notre pays, de soutenir le développement de l’économie numérique, et de répondre aux besoins du marché de l’emploi et des investisseurs nationaux et internationaux. Join us for a compelling webinar on Multimodal AI for Radiology Applications with Kenza Bouzid, an Applied Researcher at Microsoft Health Futures in the Biomedical Imaging team, based in Cambridge, UK. Radiology reporting is a complex task requiring detailed image understanding, integration of multiple inputs, including comparisons with prior imaging, and precise language generation. This makes it an ideal area for the development and use of generative multimodal models. 📚 During this webinar, Kenza will detail MAIRA-2, a large multimodal model that combines a radiology-specific image encoder with a large language model (LLM). It is trained for the new task of grounded report generation on chest X-rays.
