20 people from Save the Children International-Türkiye Country Office partner organisations attended our three-day 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 in Istanbul.      The training equipped attendees with the necessary tools to effectively manage and direct project grants and provided the opportunity to explore innovative fundraising approaches and donor engagement strategies.    This intensive training was designed for middle to senior-level professionals, combining presentations, interactive workshops, and practical exercises. Understanding campaigning for gender equality and designing effective campaigns are the only way to manifest change and success in everything that we do. ### My Summer Journey 🌍✨ At the start of this summer, I was uncertain about my next steps. Despite several job interviews, nothing worked out, leaving me worried and stressed. But I didn’t give up. I decided to apply for various Erasmus+ and ESC projects. After writing essays, crafting motivation letters, and going through interviews, I got accepted into several programs. It was a challenging process, but my hard work paid off. I just returned from an incredible 33-day journey. I participated in three training courses in Hungary, Romania, and Austria, travelling to 8 different towns and cities and working with over 100 people from 20 different countries. I experienced an 18-hour train journey from Budapest to Bucharest, flew several thousand miles, and covered thousands of miles by bus and train. I explored stunning landscapes, historical sites, and new cultures, expanding my network and learning valuable lessons. When I share my story with people, they think I am stupid or lucky; I see my decision as bold and wise. These experiences were beyond my wildest dreams. And the adventure isn’t over yet! Soon, I’ll be flying to Poland 🇵🇱 to work with Fundacja CAT Leszno as an ESC volunteer. I’m excited about the next two months in Leszno and eager to see what’s next. My summer is fully booked until mid-August, and I’m ready for whatever comes next. There’s always another journey waiting. ✈️🗺️ Opportunities are everywhere; we just need to grab them. Although I didn’t find a job this summer, I gained something far more enriching. I’m proud of my perseverance and confident in my abilities. I’m still looking for job opportunities after the summer and would appreciate any offers from my network. Celebrating Growth and Gratitude 🌟 Last weekend, I took some time to update my online profile, and part of the process included a survey about my knowledge, skills and competencies. I approached it with honesty, without any fake humbleness, and to my surprise, I ended up with six pages of skills! From human resources and communication to project/program management and strategic leadership, it was a comprehensive reflection of my professional journey. This exercise was more than just an update; it was a moment of pride and gratitude. Seeing my achievements laid out so clearly reminded me of how far I've come and how much I've grown over the years. It's easy to get caught up in the daily grind and forget to acknowledge our progress, but taking stock of our skills and competencies is a powerful way to boost our confidence and renew our sense of purpose. I am incredibly grateful to all the people who have supported, mentored and challenged me along the way. Every experience, every project and every collaboration has contributed to the development of these skills. It's a collective achievement, and I am thankful to everyone who has been part of this journey. For those of you considering a similar exercise, I highly recommend it. Our colleagues at World Vision Bosna i Hercegovina (WV BiH) have partnered with BiH Interreligious Council (IRC) to combat harmful social norm and contribute to addressing violence against children (VAC) and gender-based violence (GBV). Entrusted with financial support from the European Union in Bosnia, the partners have carried out a two-year project entitled “United in Faith in combating violence against children and gender-based violence.’’ The project is based on research stating that two thirds of BiH citizens declare as religious and place high trust in their churches and religious communities. It also considers findings from World Vision’s 2023 research about gender roles and stereotypes in BiH. Through 26 joint actions at the local and national levels, the project has engaged 140 religious leaders, 1376 youth and over 3000 direct participants from across BiH, showing the strength of meaningful interfaith and intergenerational partnerships in working together to address deeply rooted harmful practices of VAC and GBV. Dear #Recruiters, The landscape of work has changed significantly, especially regarding work conditions and employee needs. To find candidates who meet both your requirements and those of your partners, teams and stakeholders, it’s essential to adapt to these changes. First, consider eliminating the request for motivation letters. They often waste both your time and the candidate’s, as anyone can produce a good letter with the help of the internet or friends. You can list all the skills and qualifications you desire, but how will you assess someone's attitude in the workplace? Skills can be taught, but attitude is much harder to change. For internal recruitment, seek feedback from the team members who have worked closely with the candidate, not just the line manager, as perceptions can vary widely. When hiring externally, opt for a more informal, open conversation. Remember, you're working with human beings, not just ticking boxes or assigning scores. Give people a chance, and don't be rigidly bound to a predefined set of criteria that may not capture everything that matters.
