With the recent strong winds sweeping the UK, we analyzed how these conditions have affected flight operations at various airports. The attached visualization displays holdings and go-arounds from yesterday. Our findings indicate a notable increase in delays at EGAA, where the average delay doubled from the usual 16 minutes to 40 minutes, while other airports continued to experience typical delay times. Moreover, there was a decrease in flight numbers, decreasing from over 4.2k flights on Thursday and Friday to less than 2.8k by the weekend, likely affected by holiday scheduling.

🛰 “Repeated instances of GNSS interference have disrupted air traffic in recent times. This has caused delays, increased costs, negatively affected the environment, and ultimately compromised air traffic safety. The industry is in need of a reliable and resilient surveillance solution,” emphasized Philip Plantholt, General Manager of Spire Aviation, in a recent article diving into the EURIALO co-founded programme by European Space Agency - ESA.
