This study explores how positive deviance among high-achieving adults with ADHD can inspire strength-based coaching strategies and life design to complement traditional ADHD management approaches. Using a mixed-methods research approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods, data were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews to identify practical strategies used by individuals, particularly in the areas of sleep, diet, exercise, work-life balance, and organization, who self-identify as high-achieving adults with ADHD. The results show that these adults succeed by leveraging numerous unique strategies, such as managing routines, making environmental adjustments, and harnessing their personal strengths, significantly contributing to their success and well-being. The conclusions of this research highlight the value of ADHD coaching as an ideally positioned approach to focus on individual strengths and, through the lens of life design, provide a holistic framework for managing ADHD.

This study explores the advantages and disadvantages of being a professional coach with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The abundant literature on ADHD is reviewed and looked at in light of international and national (French) coaching performance standards. By looking at the relationship one with ADHD tends to have with themselves, with others, with sustained focus and follow-through, and with creative processes, this study concludes that a coach with ADHD who can have the most impairing traits of the disorder under control most probably has an edge over non-ADHD coaches, in particular when it comes to the creative aspects of the coaching process.
