  • We have achieved a major installation milestone on the ~30,000m2 Landspitali Hospital façade as building enclosure is completed. 🏥 This week, our installation team on site in Reykjavik, Iceland installed the final outside element for this vast project. "The Landspítali project has reached a significant milestone with the installation of the 3,967th unitised façade unit, marking the completion of the building's enclosure and a major phase of façade installation," comments Staticus' Senior Site Manager, Dovydas Račkauskas. "The client's objective was to ensure a sealed and warm environment so that internal contractors can start their work next year, and we have delivered this," continues Dovydas. "All façade types critical to the building's water tightness - such as EWS08 and EWS02 - have been installed to a level that ensures the building is weather-tight. And, while some additional work is required to fully complete them, the skylights have also been successfully glazed." In total, the team has now installed 3,967 out of 4,080 elements - the remaining 113 will be installed at a later date as part of the post-completion stage. This project is our first in Iceland. And according to Ólafur Hersisson from architectural consortium Corpus 3, it is the country's largest and most complex project ever. To deliver it successfully, we have worked closely with Corpus 3 and the client NLSH. We also partnered effectively with London-based consultants Buro Happold, who created the detailed specifications for the façade, including high requirements for managing seismic events. “We conquered two major engineering challenges on this project: rigorous seismic requirements and extraordinary wind loads," comments Project Engineer Andrius Kliukas. "Iceland's dynamic geological and meteorological conditions demanded precision and expertise, and thanks to our experienced design engineers, these challenges were transformed into successful design solutions.” "In terms of installation, the main challenges and obstacles were logistics and the unpredictable Icelandic weather," adds Site Manager, Romas Grazulevicius. Transporting elements from our production facility to the site takes around 3 weeks, so the logistics have been carefully managed. We have had at least 2 installation teams working on any given day - at peak times, there have been 65 Staticus installation professionals on site. "Thanks to the efforts of the entire team, we managed to handle all the challenges and reach this important project milestone," adds Romas. "While we have made substantial progress on this important project, some work remains. Nevertheless, the project is on track for completion by the end of June 2025," concludes Dovydas. 👏 Many thanks to all of the Staticus team involved in the Landspitali project, which we started working on in 2019. Thank you also to our project partner, and we look forward to the successful finalisation of this landmark building. #Landspitali #Iceland

  • Our benchmark-setting façade for the Victoria HUB renovation has won a Gold Award at the Lithuanian Product of the Year competition. 🥇 The award was presented to Staticus last Wednesday at the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists (LPK) annual awards ceremony. A panel of experts representing various industries and business sectors awarded 61 gold and 7 silver medals across 7 different categories. The Lithuanian Product of the Year competition is organised annually by the LPK, and is now in its 28th year. It is Lithuania's top program for recognising products that demonstrate outstanding quality and innovation. And the Victoria HUB façade in central London certainly fits this definition: ✔️ It featured digital innovation. The team used advanced 3D modelling and BIM integrations to enable streamline coordination on this complex rebuild. ✔️ It met very high quality standards. Our façade achieved ambitious sustainability and performance goals. ✔️ And it showcased problem-solving. We dedicated 8 months to concept design and successfully handled the installation located on one of London's busiest arterial highways. This is not the first time the Victoria HUB façade has been singled out for praise; the project was also shortlisted for Renovation Project of the Year (UK) at the 2024 Society of Façade Engineering (SFE) Awards. At the awards ceremony on Wednesday, LPK President Vidmantas Janulevičius highlighted Lithuania's current economic opportunities. High standards and no compromise when it comes to the safety of a hospital - nothing less will do. 🏨 That’s why the new clinical building at Radiumhospitalet, Oslo, advanced proton radiation cancer treatment, meets the most stringent safety requirements for its façade, including: 🔥 unitised façade elements with EI30 or EI60 fire ratings,  💥 explosion-resistant doors for the transformer rooms inside the proton building,  🧱 and excellent acoustic performance to ensure patient well-being. Then there are the aesthetic requirements. - The proton building features a U-glass façade that creates a transparency effect and softens the presence of the concrete bunker.  - Meanwhile, for the entrance pavilion to the clinic, the architectural goal is to create a warm and welcoming environment. This is achieved using wooden fins in the façade. 💬 The challenge for our team was to meet these exacting performance and architectural requirements, while delivering one of our most complex façade projects to date. "We needed to create unitised façades, stick facades, ventilated façades (with U-glass and with wooden fins), sandwich panels, and glass roofs," explains Design Manager Thomas Fink. In our latest case study, Thomas and Site Manager Andžej Dzikevič explain how the Staticus team delivered this complex façade while meeting its demanding performance requirements. • Our Visual Mock-up has been approved for Tower 2 of the Michigan Avenue project in Manchester. 👏 Michigan Towers is a mixed-use development in the iconic Media City complex in Manchester's Salford district. We are responsible for the 14,109 m2 façade for Tower 2 of this project, a 35-storey high-rise that will feature apartments, townhouses and amenity spaces. This is our 3rd high-profile project in the city. And we are working in close collaboration with architects Falconer Chester Hall, client Vermont Construction, and the local authorities to ensure it is another striking addition to Salford's skyline. "We have completed our VMU for this project, and it has been approved by the client, the architect and the city planners," comments Staticus Project Manager, Kamil Szymula. 💬 "Our project partners have shared comments on minor adjustments, which we are implementing," Kamil continues. "Approval of the VMU is a positive and important step in this project. It has been achieved through close collaboration with our project partners - especially the architects - to ensure we meet the high expectations for this project." The next milestone for Staticus is to finalise the performance mock-up. "We have completed production of the PMU and we are currently proceeding with our internal testing process," says Kamil. "The next step will be having the PMU shipped to the UK for CWCT testing at the VINCI Technology Centre UK Ltd." ⚙️ Approving the PMU and starting production will be a significant moment for us as a company. This façade is the 1st that we have developed for the UK market using our own system, which is based on Design for Manufacturing (DfM) principles. It is also the first structurally-glazed solution with fins that we have developed using DfM. Using DfM means the parts, components and products have been designed with particular attention to ease of production and assembly. "It is a milestone for us as this is our first use of this system in the UK," explains Kamil. "DfM brings sustainability and efficiency advantages, and these benefits are amplified when used on large-scale projects like Michigan Avenue." Congratulations to the team on the VMU approval, and we look forward to similar good news regarding the PMU in the near future. And thank you to all of our project partners for making these successes possible thanks to your collaborative and open approach. 🤝 #MichiganAvenue #Tower2 #Manchester #UK #DfM #Staticus #BeyondFacades

  • Conferences like glasstec – International Trade Fair ‘CircuClarity ONE’ indicate the quick advancements in the field of the circular economy. And we believe it has been a success. 👏 Our CBDO, Aulikki Sonntag, and IT project manager, Ricardo Seijas, shared that many of the ideas presented at the conference two years ago were fresh concepts that grabbed the audience's curiosity and imagination. Today, these once-futuristic concepts swiftly become actual realities, transforming the natural environment of sustainable construction. 💬 “The journey to 'CircuClarity ONE' was a collaborative effort that spanned over two years, involving a diverse group of stakeholders from the engineering community, academia, and industry. Through numerous workshops and research projects, the potential of circularity was explored and key areas for development were identified," said Aulikki. Staticus contributed to the circularity topic, focusing on data and communication. Our team presentation highlighted the importance of data sharing and the potential benefits of harnessing data to drive circularity. Following the presentations, a lively podium discussion moderated by Lisa Rammig and Linda Hildebrand explored key questions related to data-driven circularity and the value that data brings to material reuse. This discussion between us and Graeme DeBrincat and Graham Coult provided valuable insights and fostered further dialogue among industry experts. We are committed to continuing our pioneering efforts and driving the adoption of circular practices within the façade industry. As we look ahead, the untapped potential of circularity is both motivating and promising for the sector. Photo by Marcel Bilow #conference #sustainability #innovation #networking #facades
