📄 A little while ago we wrote about the development of gut microbiome in newborn babies. We discussed research by Aargaard et al. (2014) pointing to the placenta as a possible source of microbes which colonize the gut before the baby is even born; subsequently, a baby is exposed to microbes during birth and, afterwards, through diet and from the environment. 📑 However, since then, we have found more research on this topic, including studies contradicting research cited in our first post and an unorthodox method to artificially supplement the baby gut microbiome after delivery via C-section. 🔽 Read full article down below 🔽 👉 Be sure to subscribe to #AtrandiPulse to receive notifications when the latest edition is released: https://lnkd.in/d5bYdFZZ #Atrandi #AtrandiBiosciences #Microbiome #GutHealth #InfantHealth #MaternalHealth #MicrobiomeResearch

There are roughly 1000 different species of bacteria living in our mouths. They play different roles both in maintaining our oral and overall health and in causing diseases, most notably dental caries and periodontal inflammatory conditions. Interestingly, the bacteria that cause disease are present in the healthy microbiota, which is why regular oral hygiene is important in preventing the development of these conditions. On the other hand, excessive oral hygiene practices, especially the use of antimicrobial agents, can be detrimental as well, because the colonies of commensal bacteria covering the surfaces of your mouth prevent opportunistic pathogenic microorganisms from attaching. 🔽 Read full article down below 🔽 👉 Be sure to subscribe to #AtrandiPulse to receive notifications when the latest edition is released: https://lnkd.in/d5bYdFZZ #Atrandi #AtrandiBiosciences #Oral #OralHealth #OralMicrobiome #Microbiome
