Eclipses

Timpy I struggle to describe what is so special about Lissom’s music. They sound like nothing I’ve ever heard before yet always knew I wanted. Their first record ranks as one of the most beautiful I’ve ever heard.

“Eclipses” is a an impressive step forward for Lissom. The songwriting is more mature and immersive, and the production is crystal-clear with multi-layered vocals, and lush string arrangement. Favorite track: Provinces.

jammingdevice A beautiful record!

Much bigger and louder than its predecessor, Eclipses feels less experimental, tentative, or private than Lissom's debut, and more self-conscious in some ways. But these features result in a gorgeous crescendo in the penultimate piece "Mauling," which would never have been possible on their first album. Both performers remain a delight. Favorite track: Mauling.

buffaloroots There’s not a bad track here. But Repertoire into One and the Same is soul stirring!!
Glades

Glades An emotionally textured album, compelling and so beautifully composed. Favorite track: Provinces.

anancastic Everyone is invited. Music about emotions for people. Created with tenderness. Needed like air in times when people do not notice each other on the street, avoid looking into each other's eyes. Favorite track: Repertoire.

Big Sleep 03:41
Big, big sleep for me, I’ve been on the edges, I’ve seen all the endings now. Evergreen, felled and into pieces, loud, and all at peace, its sound… Can’t get back to life now, can’t get anywhere fast, won’t let anything last, can’t get out. Say, say it to me, in any other language, I’ll understand it now, build a deck of dreams, float beyond the vantage, low, but not vanishing now. Turning in circles, swimming in hell, heaven eternal, just for an hour, just for now.
2.
Tides 03:00
When you left me laying on that ashen parkway… I won’t come back to you soon, back to your moon. It was April, May and everything was all sideways, seeing in velvety hues, desperately blue. Still, an exit made its way to you slowly, look how your jealously moves, empathy brews, and in your heavy way, incessantly outplayed, see your supremacy bloom, it tends to feed you, it tends to leave you. Are we loved? Still trying… Lost in it, untying. So, which one? Your tide’s in, under it, I’m dying. Your sun’s up, high enough, I’m lit up. In the lunar rays, in the cavity, I wake, I won’t come back to you soon, back to your moon.
3.
Provinces 03:36
It’s best to make the time up, you spent it lost, like I wasn’t waiting, honest to god… I tried to join your lines up, you let me not, like I wasn’t saying, “honest to god, hear me out, lay low”, let it be static, be without, let go. It’s best to break the silence, you let it grow, like it wasn’t draining, “I promise it’s not”, expect the uninspired if left to slow, like it wasn’t waning, honest to god… Leave it all intact, send the sprawl where I can’t see you, I won’t get there soon. Empty all of it, just be nowhere, time can’t meet you, I won’t get there soon. Let me out, stay afloat, let there be magic, bring about, make gold.
4.
Repertoire 03:19
While your touch leaves me, wire your sun to freezing, I’m your repertoire, and how you draw underlines that, and your shivers undermine that. Are you way back, back beyond the traps I laid? Are you back, back beyond the lack of hate I lied about? Not your blood to bleed, it’s dying not to be split. I’m your repertoire, and what you saw underlines that, and your river undermines that. Are you way back, back beyond the tracks I left? Are you back, back beyond the lack of love I lied about?
5.
It’s on the back of my creation, a paperback abdication, it cropped me, one and the same, weakened my hope. It’s gotta be one and the same, sure. An almanac of speculation, I took the glass elevator, it stopped me wanting to say “because I don’t”. It’s gotta be one and the same, sure. Let me have it, my words failed back there, seven hours, staring blank and scared, get me out of here. It’s gotta be one and the same.
6.
Trouble 02:56 video
Lead me down, hear no sound, I can’t be judged, no. We’re without any doubt, a new shortcut home. And we’re in trouble seeing double somehow. Here now, or thereabouts, it’s in my gut now. Hunted down, run aground, I won’t need much now. Above the dark days, zero sum, a far haze, in-between outs, the hum starts to phaseout, we’re in trouble now…
7.
Lowry 03:48
It was hours after hours, but I didn’t care you knew, in the Lowry, by the towers, I crept back there for you. “I was getting through to him loud and clear.” Took the keys to my head, and threw them out. At least then, the beast just slept, grieving, just like I. There were mountains by the thousand I would’ve scaled for you, but it sounded like you were tired, I kept my stare askew. I wasn’t getting through to you, how? It was evening, I greeted your guests, deceived them well, it took teasing to bleed from my chest, but to leave you now…
8.
Your Name 02:43
Come get your name, reanimate, I lose. Come set your frame, assassinate, I lose. It was in the morning, you came a calling, I won’t be there with you. Come stake your claim, recalculate, I lose. Congratulations, you emigrated, I lose you. It was in the morning, I came a calling, I won’t be there with you. Come get me out, I don’t wanna be without or with you, be there with you. Something about you is making me lock up, guess I lose, be there with you.
9.
Shade 03:23
Little did you know, it was taking hold of my head. Little miracles, so subliminal, let me rest. You run from me, you won’t be my making. You run from me, you won’t be my shade, please… Little did I know, you were miserable for several months. It’s invisible, little metaphors weren’t enough. I run from you, you won’t be my making. I run from you, you won’t be my shade, please…
10.
Daylight 03:16
So far from me, you disagreed, I’ll let it run. And still, I’ll cut my teeth, aggressively, until it’s done. So close to me, ironically you’d become a second moon to me, the tides I’d seen held me up. Felt everything more somehow, held everything closer, how I fell, everything washed in bright sun. Left me where the daylight comes, left you where the daylight comes. And I am honestly less ‘there’, unless you come.
11.
Mauling 02:59
Jump through all, the chorus comes. dump it all, the bad men come for us, undone for us. I’ll be good for the restart, I’ve been good for the best part. Waterfall, the faucet floods, lump it all, the fabric undoes, undone for us. We all waited up, reborn, welded shut, still, we’ll soldier on until the next injection, I’ll redact what was said and done. You can’t make it up, it mauls at your gut, Looks like they were gone, where’d you get the next lot? Let me know when you start the clean-up.
12.
Suns 03:18
Irrationally, I went to meet you; it’s been a long, long time. Real agony, say when it beats you, you’re gone, I’m where you aren’t now. Real heavenly, invent a sweet tooth, it’s been a long, long time. Real tragedy, tried not to see you, you’re gone, I’m where you aren’t now. Well, I’ll be damned, that’s got to be all my sun…

about

Lissom is a collaborative work between French pianist & composer Julien Marchal and British songwriter Ed Tullett. Originally written remotely in their respective homes for piano and voice, it was transformed by ambient instrumentation and strings, and became less an album, more a melting-pot of beautiful songs, dark poetic lyrics and instrumental flourishes. A record fit for a quiet, lightless room.
