"Как да превърнем омразата в надежда" и още впечатления от OpenFest Bulgaria 2024

This Sunday I presented a side project at OpenFest Bulgaria that me and my friends have been working on for the past few months and decided to showcase publicly. The idea was to go back to the very beginning of microprocessor circuitry and create our own microcontroller. The reason for this initiative was to exchange knowledge between each other and to build a practical model based on the theoretical training at the university. In our work together, we went into great detail on the fundamental principles behind the microcontrollers that underpin modern systems to this day. There are three main stages of the development. The first of which has been successfully achieved and consists of creating the basic buses, ram and rom memories and control logic that the processor needs to operate. The second stage is in progress and consists of adding a GPIO hardware module (fully simulated and tested on FPGA) and software modules, through which we will load an executable program via UART, and establish real-time control over the execution (with monitor, written in assembly language linking to a desktop application written in C++). The third and final phase will consist of the fabrication of PCB (leaving room for our own CPU design in the future), which after proper testing will complete the absolute development cycle of an electronic product from idea to reality. Although we don't have any commercial intentions, this project has been very beneficial for us as a team and as individual engineers following our dreams to create high quality technical contraptions. I am happy to share I participated in OpenFest Bulgaria where I had the opportunity to represent Technology School Electronic Systems (TUES), associated with Technical University-Sofia and talk about The Q-bit project. I also had the pleasure to host a lightning talk about Q-bit and quantum computing. The Q-bit project contains a quantum computer simulator with its Q-SET instruction set, a first of its kind quantum circuit-like programming language with a fully modular compiler design, which enables it to be executed on all kinds of quantum computer simulators and quantum computers, called Q Assembly, and an automated scope-based dynamic memory management system for C and C++.
