Bloom where you are planted. June marked 9 years and 8months since I joined an amazing company as a young career woman with great ambition, grit, determination but limited experience. Over the years Nile Breweries Ltd. presented me with multiple opportunities to learn, unlearn, relearn, fail and succeed. The lessons that shaped my career and stood out for me in my journey are vast but I will stick to the rule of 3 and share just a few. 1. “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.” There will be alot of distractions in the workplace, variety of tasks and expectations. It is important to direct your energy where it counts. Learning to prioritize is equally as important as learning to deprioritize. 2. “Discipline and hardwork make up for what we lack in talent.” You see success doesn’t care much about talent, it only cares about results. It cares about grit, persistence, consistency, resilience. Start where you are, do it scared, put in the work and success will be yours. 3. “Man sharpens man.” There will always be someone who has gone where you intend to go, someone who has experienced what you are experiencing - harness the power of mentorship and collaboration. You will be discussed in rooms and at tables where you do not sit, advocacy is your invisible power. I learnt the skill of “working well with others”, my colleagues, leaders, teams that I led directly and indirectly all contributed a great deal to the person I have become. In a dynamic world of e-commerce particularly in emerging markets such as Uganda, the importance of strong vendor relationships cannot be overstated. Key Account Managers (KAMs) strive to drive growth. They work to ensure customer satisfaction. These relationships become the backbone of successful operations. Uganda's e-commerce sector is growing. It is driven by increasing internet penetration mobile phone usage and a young, tech-savvy population. However, the market faces unique challenges. These include logistical hurdles. Other issues are payment system limitations and variable product availability. In this environment, the role of key account managers extends beyond traditional sales. It also goes beyond customer service functions. Their job is to ensure that the platform's vendor network operates smoothly and efficiently and that Challenges Faced by E-commerce Platforms are all met by leveraging Vendor Relationships to Improve Customer Experience by, ensuring timely deliveries by coordinating with the logistics team to streamline supply chains optimize inventory levels and coordinate efficient delivery schedules. KAMs through their relationships with vendors help expand the Product Range by ensuring a steady supply of products. They can also introduce new items. These items will cater to local preferences. Regular communication with vendors about market trends and customer feedback helps expand the product range. It also keeps it aligned with consumer demand. Why Vendor Relationships Matter. Consistent Product Supply. In the e-commerce ecosystem product availability is paramount. Reliable vendor relationships ensure a steady supply of goods. This helps to avoid stockouts and maintain customer trust. For key account managers, this means regularly communicating with vendors to forecast demand. They manage inventory levels and address any supply chain disruptions promptly  Quality Assurance. Maintaining high product quality is essential for customer satisfaction and retention. Strong vendor relationships enable key account managers to work closely with suppliers. This ensures that products meet the platform's quality standards.  Competitive Pricing. In a price-sensitive market like Uganda, competitive prices can be a significant differentiator. Good relationships with vendors are crucial. KAMs can negotiate better pricing. They can also secure bulk purchase discounts and favorable payment terms. These cost savings are then passed on to customers. This enhances the platform's value proposition. Innovation and Adaptation. E-commerce platforms must continuously innovate to stay ahead in a competitive market. Vendors are often the source of new products and trends. Strong relationships encourage vendors. They collaborate on introducing new offerings tailored to local preferences. This agility helps the platform stay relevant and responsive to changing market dynamics.

If you watched the 10th edition of the AMVCA (Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards) on Saturday 10th May 2024 raise your hands in the comments ✋ It was interesting to see how they’ve grown over the years from the 1st to the 10th edition. As usual, I had several observations and identified some learnings. I’ll share some here and look forward to reading your insights in the comments. My 1st observation was to draw a parallel between my last LinkedIn post on the % of employees who get promoted and the award winners. Each award category had 5 nominees—great actors with great performances—but 1 winner. That’s a 20% promotion rate. Better than the 6% in my last post? However, to arrive at those 5 nominees, there were probably hundreds of entries- now that further reduces the success rate. I had faves in most categories, in some categories, I wanted them all to win. But they can only be one winner……… Secondly was the significant improvement in timeliness. The show started on schedule and they ensured the awardees kept to time with their acceptance speech. We struggle a lot with time adherence. We have internalized ‘African time’ as an excuse for tardiness. Having the AMVCA show time and time again that timeliness is possible with that line-up of events reiterates the possibility of adhering to time. 3rd lesson and observation was Flawless Execution. I can only imagine the work that went into putting on a show of that magnitude with that many people and activities to coordinate. From the award presenters to the awardees, to the performing artists, the guests… That event is a masterclass in execution. I know the struggle it is to organize an employee town-hall meeting or even a C-level interview. The struggle to synchronize calendars is real. Another lesson was Communication and raising awareness. The show organisers did a great job of broadcasting and raising awareness for the show. Communication has been identified as a key indicator for any initiative's success. In the corporate world, communication is one thing that a lot of us fail at. We send a mail once and that’s it, we expect compliance. A lesson here is to communicate and communicate frequently. Creatively craft your messages such that you’re saying the same thing differently, so it doesn’t get monotonous. Communicate and over-communicate. Finally for me is the first thought that hits you every AMVCA- the creativity of our designers and how they consistently raise the bar with their designs. Clothes, hair and makeup for both genders was a class act in creativity. Everyone is creative in their own way- and this isn’t just about clothes and accessories. Even in our ‘please find attached', we can be creative. On the individual level, do we bring this creativity to bear in our work? On the organizational level, do we provide an environment for individual creativity to thrive? Did you watch the AMVCA, what did you learn?
