  • 𝐖𝐑𝐀 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐰𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 WRA Governing Board, led by Chair Donald Murgor and accompanied by CEO Mohamed Shurie and top management, conducted a tour to assess the progress of the Mwache Watershed Management component under the Coast Region Water Security and Climate Resilience Project. The visit included inspecting the Mwache Dam construction and ongoing watershed and catchment management projects implemented by 10 WRUAs in the region. Key achievements so far under the project include: -Development of 22 SCMPs and the Mwache Catchment Management Plan. -Creation of 58.5 km of terraces, generating livelihoods for 1,213 community members. -Establishment of WRUA knowledge exchange forums. -Installation of rainwater harvesting infrastructure. Eric Mugaa, alongside key stakeholders, partners, and leaders in the water sector.   • WRA Chairman Donald Murgor and CEO Mohamed Shurie attended a dinner hosted by Davis & Shirtliff on November 14, 2024, at the Panari Hotel, Nairobi. The event brought together drillers, who are Davis & Shirtliff’s primary customers, to focus on sustainable groundwater development and showcase their innovative new products. In his keynote address as the chief guest of the event, CEO Mr. Shurie highlighted the WRA’s regulatory mandate and its commitment to protecting Kenya’s groundwater resources. "We at WRA are committed to safeguarding groundwater resources for future generations," he stated, "by promoting professionalism, enforcing stringent regulations, and ensuring ethical practices in the water sector, aiming to ensure sustainable water management." The Chairman, Mr. Murgor, emphasized the critical role of partnerships, ethics, and innovation in groundwater sustainability. He emphasized, "WRA serves as the regulatory body; collaboration is crucial to protect this vital resource, as neglecting it could impact businesses. Partnerships, ethical practices, and innovative approaches play a pivotal role in attaining groundwater sustainability and ensuring water resources for future generations." He also urged drillers to champion CSR activities focused on water conservation. He reassured stakeholders that WRA is prepared to tackle sector challenges together collaboratively.   • Launch of the WRA Strategic Plan 2023-2027 Today, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, @Eng. Eric M. Mugaa, joined WRA CEO Mohamed M. Shurie, OGW, MBS, and Governing Board Chairman Donald Murgor at the official launch of the WRA Strategic Plan 2023-2027. Gracing the event were esteemed guests, including PS for the State Department for Water & Sanitation, Mr. Julius Korir; Water Secretary SAO Alima; CEO of WSTF, Mr. Willis Ombai; development partners; water sector institutions; KenaWRUA officials; and WRA staff. In his statement, the CS emphasized the urgent need for financial support and collaboration in the implementation of WRA’s 5th Generation Plan, stressing its critical importance for securing the future of Kenya’s water resources for generations to come.
