About us
National Council for Persons with Disabilities is a State Corporation established by the Persons with Disabilities Act No. 14 of 2003 in Kenya. With a mandate derived from Section 7 of the Act, the Council is dedicated to championing the rights and equalization of opportunities for persons with disabilities. NCPWD has been at the forefront of formulating policies, developing measures, and implementing programmes to achieve equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. Our wide range of programmes and services are designed to empower and support persons with disabilities across the country. We believe in economic empowerment and offer grants to community self-help groups for income-generating projects, while also providing LPO financing and tools of trade to enhance entrepreneurship among PWDs. Additionally, we focus on enhancing the educational experience by supporting institutions with equipment and infrastructure. NCPWD places a strong emphasis on rehabilitation and habilitation services. Through our assistive devices programme, we provide devices such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, and prosthetic limbs, enabling greater independence. We also offer mobility and orientation training, Kenya Sign Language training, and educational support, ensuring access to quality education and training opportunities. Our commitment extends to creating awareness, advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities, and promoting their inclusion in all sectors. We work closely with government and private institutions to mainstream disability and monitor its implementation. Additionally, we provide legal services, facilitate tax exemptions, and support persons with specific needs such as autism and related developmental disabilities. At NCPWD, we strive to build an inclusive society where persons with disabilities can thrive. With over 600,000 registered persons, we continue to raise public awareness, break down barriers, and create equal opportunities for PWDs across Kenya.
