As promised, we're dropping Part 2 of the Top Polluter Awards today! While Berlin Police targets activists, climate criminals hide in the Aldon Hotel, applauding each other for a "year well-done". Our awards paint the REAL picture. Get ready to throw your tomatoes 🍅 🍅 🍅 🍅 Which company tops the charts every time we look at CO2 emissions - particularly the highest since the Paris Agreement was established? Saudi Aramco is the Ultimate Top Polluter. We asked the people to choose the Ultimate Fossil Fool of the Year, and TotalEnergies reigned supreme. For their role in fueling conflict, mistreating indigenous and local communities, and relentless #greenwashing and sportwashing, this title couldn’t be more fitting. Out of the 1,773 #fossilfuel lobbyists at #COP29, who was likely the most present? ExxonMobil, of course! With $7.7 million spent on lobbying in 2022 alone, it is safe clear that Exxon Mobil is an enemy of the Just Energy Transition. TotalEnergies fossil fuel expeditions always leave a devastating trail of conflict, exacerbated poverty, #environmentaldestruction, sickness and displaced communities. The award for Worst Impact on Indigenous and Local Communities was therefore undisputed. #WorldLNGSummit

The wait for the Top Polluter Awards is over! While the biggest #polluters gather at the #worldlngsummit patting each other on the back, on yet another successful year of destroying the planet, we hereby present them with awards more fitting of their destruction. For all its #Greenwashing ways from highly ambitious but oddly never attained #RenewableEnergy goals to the age-old tactic of using advertising to dupe the public Shell takes the trophy for the Greatest Greenwasher Award. With a whopping $36 billion in profit in 2023 alone, and no signs of reform or a change in course, ExxonMobil wins the Most Profitable Climate Crisis Exploiter Award. Who wins the Lifetime Achievement in Carbon Emissions Award? Look no further than Saudi Aramco - research shows that Saudi Aramco's historic CO2 #emissions are unmatched! 🤯 From conflicts in the Niger Delta, an insurrection in Mozambique and police brutality in Uganda, TotalEnergies finds itself at the center of it all. It is only fitting that we award them with the National Security Disruptor Award.

It’s not just rising temperatures. It’s heatwaves, droughts, food shortages, water scarcity, and a direct threat to human life. This is the reality of the #ClimateCrisis.

It’s not just a dry season. It’s frequent fires, blazing stronger and more frequently each year. It’s tree cover loss, stripping us of one of our greatest defenses against climate change. It’s the release of CO2 naturally stored in forests, accelerating global warming. It’s the burning of larger forest areas every year, leaving destruction in its wake. And most heartbreakingly, it’s the loss of countless lives. We must take a stand. We must demand better. We must reject the false narratives that a #fossilfuel such as gas is a “solution” or a “transition” energy. There is no time left to debate. It’s time to rise up against the fossil fuel industry. It’s time to accelerate the transition to renewable energy - for humanity’s sake. #EndFossilFuels

It’s not just dead fish in the sea. It’s a sign of a plankton boom. A sign of coral bleaching. A sign of ocean acidification. A sign of too much CO2 in the atmosphere. These are the cascading effects of #climatechange - one event triggering another in an interconnected chain of destruction. When we see dead fish, it’s easy to dismiss it as a one-off event, but it’s a signal of something much bigger. This isn’t just an #environmentalcrisis—it’s a warning about our own survival. The time to act is now. We must push hold polluters accountable.

Climate change is here, and it wears many faces - droughts, countless dead sea animals, and disappearing rivers, to name just a few. Many people still refuse to believe that #climatechange is real, thanks to the disinformation and misinformation that floods the internet. But denial doesn’t make the #climateemergency any less real. It is through our actions and our voices that we commit to challenging these false narratives with the truth. The #FossilFuel industry is responsible for this crisis, and the underhanded tactics they use to continue profiting from #EnvironmentalDestruction will not go unchallenged. In what big or small ways has climate change affected your neighborhood? Tell us in the comments!

DID YOU KNOW? A staggering 1,773 fossil fuel lobbyists attended #COP29 in Baku? You may be asking yourself🤔: What is a fossil fuel lobbyist, and why is their presence at COP a problem? Read on. A fossil fuel lobbyist is someone hired by Big Oil to protect their interests. They work to delay climate action, derail agreements, and spread misinformation disguised as solutions. Think of them as undercover agents for the #fossilfuel industry. How powerful are they? Take ExxonMobil, for example - it spent $7.7 million in 2022 alone on fossil fuel lobbying. That’s money spent to manipulate climate policies in their favor (Think: #Greenwashing). That is just the tip of the iceberg. But they don’t always operate openly. Some fossil fuel lobbyists hide behind think tanks, organizations, and campaigns that appear to support the environment. But in reality, they push misleading narratives, like: Gas is a “transition fuel”. The good news is once you know their tactics, fossil fuel lobbyists are easy to spot🔍: just look out for those who laud false solutions like #carbonmarkets and #greenhydrogen as genius and groundbreaking interventions. They stand firmly against real #CleanEnergy solutions that don't center the #fossilfuels industry. Fossil fuel lobbyists threaten real #ClimateAction. Recognizing their tactics is the first step toward resisting their influence. This guide by Global Witness breaks down all their covert tactics. https://lnkd.in/dKFkJ57B

Ending fossil fuel expansion is the least we must do to keep the 1.5°C limit within reach. But our research shows: 𝟗𝟓% 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐢𝐥 & 𝐠𝐚𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 are already developing oil and gas fields that could even push global warming beyond 2 °C. 578 upstream companies on our Global Oil & Gas Exit List intend to tap into 𝟐𝟑𝟗.𝟑 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 in the next 1 to 7 years. The biggest 6 expansionists alone account for almost a third of that number. TotalEnergies is one of the most aggressive oil & gas expansionists. Over the last 3 years, the company has spent an average of over 1 billion US dollars annually on searching for new reserves. Compared to its competitors, Total is pressing ahead with new oil and gas projects in most countries worldwide (53). Almost a third of these countries are so-called “frontier countries” such as South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique or Papua New Guinea. These countries currently have little or no oil and gas production. TotalEnergies' LNG project in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, is a particulary blatant story of displacement and violence (https://lnkd.in/gCCf8SPp). TotalEnergies is financially supported by banks such as BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole Group and Deutsche Bank, which are among the top 10 most important funders in the period 2019-2023. The ten largest investors in TotalEnergies include BlackRock, Vanguard and, once again, Deutsche Bank (as of March 13, 2024). In addition to Deutsche Bank, the five largest German investors are Union Investment, Deka Investment, Allianz and LBBW. 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐥 𝐟𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞-𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐥 𝐟𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞. The oil and gas industry will not transition until financing dries up. BNP Paribas and Crédit Agricole announced this year to no longer participate in conventional bond issuances by companies in the oil and gas industry. That is a tiny step in the right direction.
