  • Today, on Human Rights Day, CREAW in Nyeri County joined other counties to march against the rising tide of femicide in Kenya. This powerful march marked the conclusion of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign to end violence against women and girls. Femicide is a stark reminder of the urgent need to protect women’s rights and lives. We honored the courage and resilience of human rights defenders across Kenya who tirelessly fight for justice and equality in the face of adversity. Let’s keep the momentum alive, because every woman deserves to live in safety and dignity. Mastercard Foundation #EndFemicideKE #HumanRightsDay2024 #16DaysOfActivism

  • CREAW proudly joined Nyeri County in launching the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a bold step towards equality and safety for all. Led by CECM for Gender, Youth, Sports, and Social Services, Madam Esther Ndung'u, the event brought together young people to drive meaningful change. 200 girls received dignity packs, while 50 boys were equipped with hygiene kits, ensuring their basic needs were met with dignity and care. Beyond meeting these immediate needs, the event featured sensitization sessions on gender-based violence and mental health, creating a platform to address challenges faced by the youth. With plans to extend these initiatives to other sub-counties, the movement against GBV continues to gain momentum. Mastercard Foundation #16DaysOfActivism

As we continue to observe the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, CREAW joined hands with the County Government of Meru, partners, stakeholders and community members to advocate for an end to GBV. The event was graced by Meru County Commissioner Jacob Ouma, who emphasized the importance of fully implementing the Meru Gender Policy. Dr. Wahome Mukundi, Meru County Chief Officer for Health, representing the Office of the Governor, reaffirmed the county’s commitment to eradicating GBV. He called on all stakeholders to collaborate in building a safer, more equitable community. This aligns with our work in Meru County under the USAID Elevate: Voice Yake program, which aims to combat sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) by amplifying the voices and aspirations of adolescent girls and women to enable them to exercise their right to a dignified and meaningful life.. The program is being implemented by CREAW, YWCA Kenya and Lifeskills Promoters (LISP) funded by USAID Kenya It also speaks to our Jasiri program which aims to support young women to live a dignified life in the world of work. We are alive to the fact that to eradicate GBV, there is a need for economical empowerment which gives women and girls the power and agency. Our Jasiri program is implemented by CREAW, CCGD Kenya, GROOTS Kenya, CDTD and ADSOCK _KENYA in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.   #16DaysOfActivism #USAIDElevateVoiceYake #JasiriProgram
