Dr. Purity Ngina is no stranger to most of us. She made headlines in 2018 when she graduated as the youngest Doctor of Philosophy in Biomathematics from Strathmore University. Today, she serves as the CEO of the National Gender Equality Commission (NGEC). On a sunny Wednesday, we meet at her cozy office on Longonot Road in Nairobi. If resilience had a name, it would be Dr Ngina. She believes that she can occupy any office in Kenya. Judging by the look on her face, Dr Ngina is both happy and content. She thrives in the gender space, advocating for equality and freedom, particularly for special interest groups. It’s often said it gets lonely at the top. Now that you’ve reached the corner office, is that your experience?” Lonely” depends on perspective. If you’re searching for social fulfillment at work, then yes, it can feel isolating.
