April 30 - WBroker Daily Note Musk arrived at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing and had an in-depth exchange with Premier Li Qiang of the State Council. The day after Musk's visit to China, news about “FSD is about to be launched in China” continued to emerge. Nick Timiraos wrote that under the reality of increasing budget deficits and investment demand, long-term neutral interest rates may be on an upward trend. In other words, the Federal Reserve may cut interest rates, but the end of the era of ultra-low interest rates is a foregone conclusion. On Monday, April 29, the stock market opened strongly in the morning, maintaining high-level fluctuations in the second half. The intraday chart mirrored the northward inflow, and the ChiNext Index and the SSE Composite Index led the gains, with the SSE Composite Index surpassing 3,100 points, hitting a new high for the year. After falling to 160.17 in the morning session, the yen rose about 2% in the afternoon session, with a short-term surge of over 400 points, touching 155.06. The intraday fluctuation range of the yen exceeded 500 points, almost equivalent to the intervention by the Japanese government in 2022. Due to continued negotiations between Hamas and Israel on a ceasefire, international crude oil futures prices weakened in the overnight market, fluctuating lower during the trading session on April 29, and international oil prices fell significantly at the closing. Japan and China are at a crossroads, with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba meeting Chinese Premier Li Qiang to discuss strengthening ties amid rising regional tensions. This diplomatic engagement highlights a delicate balance: Japan's economic cooperation with China contrasts sharply with its growing security concerns over military activities in the region. While both leaders aim for a "strategic mutually beneficial relationship," tensions linger, particularly regarding Chinese incursions into Japanese airspace and naval activities near Okinawa. As the U.S. watches closely, wary of a unified East Asia that could undermine its influence, Japan remains anchored in its alliance with Washington. This situation raises essential questions: Can Japan effectively navigate its economic interdependence with China while ensuring its national security? The evolving dynamics spotlight the complexities of geopolitical strategy, making it a critical moment for stakeholders in the region. Let's keep a keen eye on how this unfolds!

"Taiwan Political Update - November 12, 2024 The most significant legislative proposal impacting Taiwan's political structure recently is the Fiscal Distribution Act. If passed, this legislation would substantially increase local governments' fiscal autonomy, diluting the central government's traditional policy leverage through subsidy allocations by delegating more financial authority to local governments. The bill has naturally sparked intense debate in parliament. The ruling party is currently attempting to delay the committee review process through procedural tactics involving the confirmation of meeting minutes. This strategy is being implemented by the ruling party's committee chairperson. However, next week, the opposition party's chairperson will take charge of committee proceedings. It is projected that the bill will clear the committee stage after November 22, 2024. For foreign investors in Taiwan, this development means engaging with a more complex stakeholder landscape. While local governments will have greater flexibility in tax collection and policy implementation, this change may not necessarily be disadvantageous for foreign businesses - it could potentially create more opportunities for strategic engagement."

Oops. Looks like Mr. Ishiba's call for a snap election backfired. The results are in. Of the 465 contested seats in the Lower House, the Ruling Parties (LDP + Komeito) got 215. The opposition parties got 235. 233 seats were needed for a majority so simply put, the Ruling Parties lost. IMO, Mr. Ishiba should have fully addressed the financial scandal which brought down his predecessor, Mr. Kishida, before triggering this election. Mr. Ishiba and LDP are now in a precarious position. That said, I believe the future of Japanese business and investment remains on an upward path, largely unaffected by political turnover. One could even argue that government leadership here may have less direct impact on business stability than in other regions. What do you think? https://lnkd.in/eurqx92t

Will Trump take the Musk path or the Rubio path on Taiwan? Lev Nachman reckons it might be the way of Elon in this timely op-ed for Nikkei Asia "Why should Musk cause concern for Taiwan? Beyond his strong business ties to China and sympathy with Xi Jinping and Putin, he himself has argued that Taiwan ought to simply accept a Hong Kong style "one country, two systems" deal with Beijing. Musk, like many voices in the Republican Party, do not seem to see the merit in supporting democratic places like Taiwan and Ukraine, and instead are closer to the leaders of autocratic countries of Xi and Putin. Instead, Musk has been described as a new "Kissinger" who may help broker a deal between the U.S. and China."

On the 2nd, #DonaldTrump, the next US president, expressed on his social networking site that he was “completely opposed” to the plan by #NipponSteel to acquire United States Steel Corporation. Since 2000, #China's steel industry, which has led the world along with its economic development, is also showing signs of slowing down. If we look at history, the “leading role” has been passed on repeatedly. With protectionism on the rise and the need to respond to changes in demand and environmental measures, I have explained in my own narration why Nippon Steel is aiming to acquire the “American giant” in this video. Please take a look! <Nikkei> https://lnkd.in/dGea2dBE #Nikkei

China's Third Plenary Session Ends with Vague Promises in Transformation: U.S. Executives Seek Clarity in Beijing next Week The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), anticipated with high expectations, concluded on Thursday, July 18, in Beijing. The session reviewed and discussed a work report by President Xi Jinping and approved a decision on further comprehensive reforms and promoting Chinese-style modernization. As is customary with such sessions, the Third Plenary usually sets the tone for reforms over the next five to ten years. However, this year's session, while reiterating ambitious policy goals like industrial modernization, expanding domestic demand, and controlling debt and real estate risks, failed to provide concrete implementation details. [Reuters](https://reuters.com) reported that the session's outcome highlighted China's continuation of existing policy directions rather than introducing new stimulus measures to boost domestic demand. U.S.-based economist Cheng Xiaonong described the session’s communiqué as a blend of old and new slogans, indicating that China's development is at a standstill. Notably, terms like "reform" appeared over 50 times in the communiqué, yet analysts remain skeptical about the practical implications. The emphasis on a high-level socialist market economy was seen as a shift, although it remains unclear how these broad goals will be achieved. Amidst this, top executives from major U.S. companies are scheduled to visit Beijing next week, hoping to gain firsthand insights from Chinese officials about the session's outcomes and their implications for foreign investment. # Thank you Amanda Zhang for your submission!

https://lnkd.in/gdjak3PH Kure city of Hiroshima prefecture secretly negotiated with Japanese Government to construct 113ha military position. But, there was few explanation to Japanese nation and Kure city's residents. Why Japanese Government didn't initiated open arguments about this? The way the government unilaterally decided and forced through without providing sufficient information in advance to the public or local residents is exactly the Modus Operandi of Imperial Japan. There is no transparency at all. It is an anti-democratic approach. Biden Administration should abolish US-Japan Security Treaty ASAP. Japan reverted to America's enemy: Imperial Japan. Nippon Steel takes an important role in this plot. Therefore, US Government must never trust Nippon Steel and it should add it to the entity list of US' targets of sanctions. Nippon Steel's takeover of US Steel must be immediately #BANNED. Nippon Steel supports Imperial Japan's practice. #UNFORGIVEN #CIA should target Nippon Steel. If Japan continues to decide things in this dictatorial way, Japanese government's rampage will become unstoppable, just as it took two nuclear weapons to stop the rampage of Imperial Japan.

We have to work with companies in Japan, South Korea, Germany, Taiwan and Holland if we are going to make a serious effort to prevent China from obtaining the most advanced semiconductors. This means some sacrifice for all the companies, including U.S. companies, but it is a question of national security for the entire alliance. It's clear that semiconductors are used in weapons, telecommunications systems, computers and all the systems that the Chinese are using to create global dominance--and in some cases, providing to Russia for its brutal smashing of Ukraine. China is obviously using rare earths as a bargaining chip and that means we have to redouble efforts to develop new sources. BattlefieldCyber PeterElstrom

What angers #CCP of China #PRC? There are about 380,000 #Chinese spouses of #Taiwanese living in #Taiwan, and some of them demonstrate great support for Taiwan. 80 of them are Youtubers. “Taiwan’s democratic and free way of life is enticing to them, and they want to share their experiences here — but the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is threatened by that and launches attacks.” They talk about the nation’s public healthcare system, rule of law and governmental efficiency, which they say are all better in Taiwan than those in China. https://lnkd.in/gXDFmWRA

Nikon announced on September 24 that it has begun a demonstration experiment to increase power generation efficiency by attaching "shark skin"-like film to the blades of wind turbines. It has the effect of reducing frictional resistance, increasing the turning force at the same wind power. It is entering the wind power generation market because it sees the expansion of wind power generation as a commercial opportunity.
