NTT is developing non-invasive glucose sensors that could reduce the burden on healthcare providers and lower costs associated with diabetes care by enabling users to monitor and manage their health independently.   Demonstrated at the NTT R&D Forum event recently held in Tokyo, the prototype sensor is miniaturized to the size of a smartwatch, so that users can wear it comfortably. 🤝 The NTT Group, KDDI Corporation, SoftBank Corp. and Rakuten Mobile have launched a new cooperative framework for the rapid restoration of communication networks in the event of large-scale disasters. All Japanese telecommunications companies will collaborate to share their assets, use ships owned by the NTT Group and KDDI Corporation and strengthen coordination between mobile and fixed-line operators. NTT and Hokkaido University jointly developed and demonstrated a new structural design that realized a 10 times higher capacity of one optical fiber for communications, marking a world first. The research was presented as a top-scoring paper at the 50th European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC) held in Frankfurt in September 2024. The results of this research are expected to be developed further as one of the elemental technologies to achieve the IOWN goal of increasing the transmission capacity 125 times.
