DWIH Tokyo is a platform for German Research & Innovation in Japan, promoting exchange in science, research & technology
概要
The German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo (DWIH Tokyo) is a platform for German universities, research institutions and research-based companies in Japan. It supports knowledge exchange between Germany and Japan, communicates between actors of both countries and thus, creates the preconditions for research cooperation. To do so, it relies on its research-based supporters in Germany who facilitate and shape the work of DWIH Tokyo on site. Throughout the year, DWIH Tokyo organises professional events on focal topics of innovation and research. By facilitating symposia, workshops, open lectures and science competitions, DWIH Tokyo promotes the exchange between German and Japanese players in science, research, business, policymaking and the interested public. DWIH Tokyo belongs to a global network of five German Centres for Research and Innovation. Since its establishment in 2010, it has been supported by the German Federal Foreign Office. It has been coordinated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), since 2017.

The launch of #POLARSTERN II marks a groundbreaking moment for polar and marine research🚢 As one of the most advanced research vessels in the world, it will replace its predecessor from the 1980s with cutting-edge technology like underwater vehicles, autonomous drones, and state-of-the-art labs. This new icebreaker, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany (BMBF), is set to provide invaluable insights into climate change, exploring previously inaccessible regions and supporting the Neumayer Station III in Antarctica. With its construction now greenlit, the ship is expected to embark on its first mission by the end of the decade. A major leap forward for sustainable and impactful climate research! #PolarResearch #MarineResearch #ClimateChange #Germany

Danke!! Last weekend, on December 14th-15th, we at NRW.Global Business Japan had the pleasure of hosting our first Start-Up Gasshuku event in the picturesque setting of Karuizawa. This two-day program was designed to equip promising startups with the tools, knowledge, and connections they need to successfully expand into North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany, one of Europe’s most dynamic regions. Participants dove into hands-on workshops and engaged in insightful discussions tailored to the opportunities awaiting them in NRW. The event provided an excellent platform to share practical growth strategies and foster collaboration between the German and Japanese startup ecosystems. We were honored to welcome distinguished speakers who brought a wealth of expertise to the event: Axel Karpenstein from DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst Tokyo / DWIH Tokyo (German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo), Fabian Hoshino from EY Strategy and Consulting Co., Takeru Kawashima, from 01Booster Inc., Sandeep Casi from Antler Venture Capital, Taichi Ando from Japan Finance Corporation (日本政策金融公庫), and Masaatsu Doi from Hosei University (法政大学). Their contributions were instrumental in helping participants navigate the steps toward establishing and growing their businesses abroad. The energy, ideas, and collaborations that emerged over the weekend were truly inspiring. We are thrilled to have facilitated this crucial first step for startups looking to expand internationally and can’t wait to see the success stories that will undoubtedly emerge from this program.
