Consider an Apprenticeship at Cleveland Clinic

Cleveland Clinic is proud to offer our caregivers and community apprenticeship programs so you can learn – while you earn. As a Cleveland Clinic apprentice, you can gain valuable skills and certifications you need to achieve success in a family-sustaining career.

Apprenticeship programs are the launching pad to gain experience in patient care, such as working with and learning from leading experts in the field, and, training in patient examinations, testing procedures and more. At the end of the program, you will be ready to apply your skills toward your profession’s designated certification exam.

Taking the next step to explore a new career path and grow your skills can feel overwhelming. But, as a Cleveland Clinic apprentice, you will never be alone. You will be a part of a team of teams, learning and growing your skills together, with assistance from a mentor to help you get to the finish line.

Apprenticeship Opportunities

This one-year EEG Apprenticeship Program will expose you to all the cutting-edge technology and meaningful work that EEG Technologists do each day. You’ll be introduced to the electro-neurodiagnostic field and given an overview of the brain, the role of the technologist, and training on the diagnostic procedures used to monitor a patient’s brain and nervous system. You’ll also:

  • Receive training and instruction in performing electroencephalographic examinations and epilepsy monitoring.
  • Calibrate and adjust equipment.
  • Observe patients with video and digital recording equipment.
  • Apply electrodes, respiration monitors and EKG.
  • Obtain relevant patient information from clinical records and questioning.
  • Prepare for the ABRET Registered EEG Technologist exam.

After working as an apprentice for a year, you’ll become a Non-Registered Monitoring Technician. Once you take and pass the exam, you’ll be a Registered EEG Technician and can apply for a rewarding career with Cleveland Clinic. Career advancement may include roles such as EEG reader, magnetoencephalography (MEG) technologist, intra-operative monitoring technologist, and trainer of future EEG technologists.

In our Ophthalmic Assistant Apprenticeship, you’ll be surrounded by caregivers who want to see you succeed and deliver world-class care. As a lifelong learner who is positive and reliable, you’ll:

  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment, under the direction of a supervisor or Certified Ophthalmologist.
  • Perform initial examinations and ophthalmic testing procedures.
  • Assist with related examinations/procedures.
  • Document patient information in the patient medical record.
  • Receive guidance on taking the Certification Exam.

Once you pass your Certification Exam, you will have the nationally recognized credentials to apply to be eligible for a position as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant at Cleveland Clinic.

Cleveland Clinic’s School of Pharmacy Technology is one of the only accredited, hospital-based Pharmacy Technician schools in the country and is paving the way for new technician leaders.

During your Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship, we’ll be here to help prepare you to meet the needs of an expanding pharmacy practice. Your duties will include:

  • Gaining knowledge in packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service, and maintaining pharmacy records.
  • Receiving hands-on training in a state-of-the art learning environment to introduce pharmacy practice and the Pharmacy Technician’s role with the pharmacy.
  • Experiencing a variety of both inpatient and outpatient practice settings.

This is an accelerated program, and the structure is in place to allow you to graduate in 18 weeks. You’ll have the opportunity to work in pharmacies at our Main Campus and regional hospitals, while also completing coursework at our School of Pharmacy Technology.

At the end of the program, you will receive a diploma in Pharmacy Technology and be prepared to take and pass your national certification test.

During our Polysomnographic Technician Apprenticeship program at our Sleep Lab, you’ll learn how to perform overnight sleep assessments in our eight-bed sleep center to diagnose various sleep disorders. This includes:

  • Interviewing patients to determine sleep disorder issues.
  • Performing and documenting state-of-the-art testing.
  • Monitoring patients throughout testing and intervening as necessary to resolve issues.
  • Scoring, interpreting and reporting results of sleep studies.
  • Using the latest equipment, the Nihon Kohden Polysmith® Version 12 recording system.

Not only will you enjoy a support system that includes coaching and mentoring, but you’ll also:

  • Get 3 months of instruction and 9 months of training.
  • Work one of the following shifts: 6:30 p.m.-7:30 a.m. or 8 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
  • Take part in our interview process: virtual interview and observation night
  • Receive tips on preparing for the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologists (BRPT) exam.

Cleveland Clinic’s Sterile Processing Technician Apprenticeship will provide you with the world’s best experience in all areas of sterile processing. In this apprenticeship, you will:

  • Become familiar with all areas of sterile processing and portions of the surgical suite, including decontamination of house table and operating room instrumentation.
  • Become proficient in identifying and inspecting instrumentation to recognize missing or malfunctioning parts.
  • Learn to complete the appropriate documentation required for the sterilization procedure.

At the end of your apprenticeship, you will be qualified to successfully complete the University of Akron program and pass the Certified Registered Central Service Technician test.
