📈 Italy’s New Law for Startups & Innovative SMEs Starting November 22, 2024, Italy's updated Startup Act will offer new incentives for innovative startups and SMEs. Highlights include: 🔹Tax Deductions: 50% IRPEF deduction for investments up to €300,000, held for three years. 🔹  Capital Gains Exemption: Tax-free gains if reinvested in venture capital for innovation. 🔹  Streamlined Setup: Simplified, digital processes to ease startup creation and access to funding. 🔹  CDP Fund: A new fund managed by CDP to attract international investment and support young and female entrepreneurs. These incentives are available until December 31, 2024 and to qualify, businesses must be under five years old and invest at least 15% of their budget in research. Tiscali has launched #Villanova, an innovative project aimed at making #artificial #intelligence accessible to everyone, from small businesses to individuals, part of #IPCEI-CIS. The #IPCEI-CIS is the key digital initiative for Europe driven by more than 100 companies and research organizations from 12 EU Member States aiming to establish the first- ever “Multi-Provider Cloud-Edge Continuum”. The main objective is the creation of an entirely new decentralized environment, which will enable software infrastructure for the advanced use of data processing resources from Cloud to Edge. This novel open ecosystem operated by multiple providers will reduce technological dependencies as well as lock-in effects. Moreover, it will enable a whole new dimension of data-driven business models, e.g., AI- and IoT-related, for a broad L spectrum of domains and industries such as manufacturing, mobility, energy and tourism. During the course of the IPCEI Cloud projects, a total volume of several billion Euros will be invested.

The car industry in Italy has been dying for two decades, way before any impact of EVs on the market. The government tries to lay the blane on the EU Green Deal, but the loss of automotive production in Italy is due to a lack of competitiveness, cheaper production in other countries, as well as inability to plan and follow mobility market changes. If Italy had any minimal chance to secure some relevance in the upcoming EV market, that's being lost. Scrambled policies without coherent long term support means none is gonna invest. Italy has zero gigafactories. Italvolt choose to set up in UAE instead of Italy, while ACC (Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz and TotalEnergies) has paused the planned plant in Termoli. #italy #automotive

Looking forward to this discussion on the topic of connectivity, and the different efforts standard setters are undertaking to bring some more structure in the evolving financial reporting landscape. I will be discussing our outstanding exposure draft on the representation of #climate-related and other uncertainties in the financial statements. It represents the #IASB current view on how the current requirements in #IFRSAccounting should reflect climate risks.

Italy is facing a serious challenge: we have one of the lowest nurse-to-population ratios in Europe—just 6.5 nurses per 1,000 people, while the EU average is 8.4. And with over 25% of nurses nearing retirement and an aging population, the pressure is only going to increase. So, what can we do about it? • Increase salaries to match European standards and keep our talent here. • Improve working conditions: less burnout, more support! • Attract the next generation with scholarships and programs that make nursing an exciting career. • Bring in skilled nurses from abroad with solid integration plans. • Develop a long-term strategy to make sure we’re ready for the future. Last week, #MarioDraghi and #EnricoLetta took a position on the future of Europe’s economic policies. In the EU bubble, we have the tendency to digest ideas by killing them in detail-oriented debates. Here my personal take: 💡 #MarioDraghi and #EnricoLetta seem to share a similar view. Europe today is squeezed in between the US and China. Because we failed to fully create a European #SingleMarket, we risk a rapid economic decline. In “Maslow’s hierarchy” terms, some pretty essential things are at stake: security, economic resilience, our welfare as citizens. It’s not just a theoretical and policy discussion. 💡 The #scale of our economy, and of our companies, is identified by both of them as a critical. The reasoning is simple: when others have “continental-sized economies” and we do not, then our only choice is to finally integrate and scale up. This is where #geopolitics seems to play a key role for both Draghi and Letta: Europe could live with fragmentation when the world was a more “benign” place for the West. Today it isn’t, so it is "do or die". 💡 The #telecommunications sector is identified as a critical one by both. Because it’s a key infrastructure for the future of any economy. Because it is critical for security. Here, both Draghi and Letta say that national scale is suboptimal. They want a single telecoms market, stress “consolidation” as one enabler. While they call for scale across many different sectors, their views on telecoms will be debated at length: it is a consumer-facing industry (i.e., “prices”), hence a tricky one from the electoral and political viewpoint. Also, DG COMP decisions rely on years of case law and retrospective economic analysis: new ideas are by definition unsettling to the competition policy community. ❓ Will Brussels digest and dispose of their ideas as fast as it did in other instances ❓ Enrico Letta’s report has been published here: https://lnkd.in/eJXgBVjJ. I believe there are at least 3 reasons why it will be difficult to ignore their contributions: 1️⃣ Mario Draghi saved the Euro (and the EU?) on July 26, 2012, by saying 3 words: “whatever it takes”. Btw, many economists disagreed with him back then. His bet paid off and ever since, it is difficult to ignore or dismiss anything he says, in Europe and elsewhere. 2️⃣ Both Enrico Letta and Mario Draghi are first-rank academic minds. And so are the people in their Teams, who back everything up with data. Most of us interlocutors in the EU bubble are not on par with any of them. 3️⃣ What they both say simply resonates with reality: either the 27 Member States play as one, or by the end of this Century they’ll be irrelevant. Even Fukuyama says it: like it or not, history is back.
