While we anxiously wait for Skynet to replace Hollywood (haha?). There’s still animation done by hand and now is the best time to really take a honest look at your reel. I just want to share this incredible acting reference from fellow copilot Alessio Paolo Mizzan. We decided to add a closeup subtle shot that has real empathy and emotional depth. Deep diving into the subtext and what the character is really thinking and feeling. Truly inspiring acting (he is a trained actor). Stay tuned for the blocking pass post soon. Amazing! I know there’s a lot of fear and anxiety around AI and the state of the business. But great animators will always be demand to show humanity the human condition. It's what bonds us. His journey highlights the challenges and triumphs of integrating traditional architectural skills with cutting-edge digital technology. 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗫𝗥 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 Alessio’s path began in Italy, where he studied architecture. His ambition led him to the U.S., where he attended SCI-Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture) in Los Angeles. As an international student, he navigated visa challenges, cultural adjustments, and the competitive landscape of the tech industry. “Being an international student added layers of complexity to my journey. Navigating visa requirements and adapting to a new culture were significant challenges, but they also pushed me to work harder and build a robust portfolio.” During his studies, Alessio’s interest in XR grew as he saw the potential to combine architectural visualization with immersive technology. Alessio recalls that “initially, XR technology was quite rudimentary, with few tools available, I learned through many projects in school and internships at game companies. It was a challenging but rewarding journey.” Transforming his career from architecture to XR wasn’t easy. Alessio had to learn coding, often relying on tools like Unity that provided visual interfaces similar to architectural software. He watched tutorials, completed projects for practice, and took on internships to gain practical experience. Alessio’s impressive portfolio eventually led him to work on high-profile projects with leading companies like Nike and Morphosis. His work for Morphosis, showcased at Milan Design Week, involved an AR app that allowed users to modify architectural assets interactively. 'Transform', shape changing furniture by MIT media lab. Quite a depiction also of where our social feeds and digital content are heading:   AI is quickly becoming the main tool for the creation of texts, images and designs. In which users tell the systems what to create. But that's an intermediary phase. The more fundamental shift is one in which AIs will create without our detailed instructions. And change content on the spot.   That future is here. Last week Meta introduced their 'Imagined for you' project at the Meta Connect Event. Idea is that images on your Facebook or Instagram feed are generated by AI instantly. For you, based on your data. This is a shift that will occur in all sort fields where content creation and design come into play.   It's not necessarily a bad thing. Creation will change, away from craftmanship to working more on a conceptual level, setting the boundaries for the systems. As long as the creating systems connect to deep human stories, concepts, or emotions, they can lead to interesting output. Maybe even art.   Where it becomes problematic, is when the systems do their thing based on the statistics that drive our social media. Being triggered by flat impulses, click bait and polarization. Leading to content increasingly finetuned to get you in matching states a mind. A development therefore to be critical about and push back against.   The shape changing table 'Transform' was created in 2014. More prophetic about an upcoming future than its makers probably ever imagined (for you).
