Our Scientific Committee member Rafael Sardá is a leading expert in integrated coastal zone management, ocean governance, benthic sediment systems and corporate sustainability, with a focus on corporate strategies and value chain. With over 200 research papers and leadership in 20+ international projects, Rafael brings invaluable expertise to One Ocean Foundation. 🌊 Rafael shares, "At One Ocean Foundation, my contribution focuses on bridging the gap between ocean protection and business. I prioritize sustainable ocean governance and integrated coastal management, aiming to elevate the role of scientific research in safeguarding the ocean and building resilience.” From the beginning, Rafael has been guiding our research on Business for Ocean Sustainability, analyzing industrial pressures on oceans and driving awareness initiatives. His work led to the creation of the Ocean Disclosure Initiative, the first reporting framework for assessing industries' ocean impact. Furthermore, Rafael supports the Foundation in the development of the EFFECTIVE Horizon Project promoting Ecosystem-Based Management System (EBMS)—a holistic approach to managing natural resources, considering the entire ecosystem and human interactions. 🌊 In our latest report, we explore key pressures from the transportation and logistics industry on the ocean. 🚚✈️ Our findings reveal that companies in the sector often overlook the full spectrum of impacts on marine ecosystems.
