The sixth NAAD edition closed its path in Venice last Friday, the 25th. Fourteen architects from all over the world, young and mature scholars, and practitioners have graduated. I want to thank all NAAD professors and Roberto Fulciniti, the NAAD coordinator, for their efforts to produce this incredible experience where we strive to merge neuroscience with architectural design. In this edition, we have worked a lot on #healthcare design topics, as well as on residential, #student, and #elderly #housing and hosting centers for immigrants. NAAD also thanks the private companies that supported our grants: EY, Laura Criscuolo and Donato Ferri, Korian Italia, Federico Guidoni, Elisabetta Tagliente, RELIFE, CampusX Samuele Annibali. Thesis tutors Cleo Valentine, Zakaria Djebbara, Giovanni Vecchiato, Kate Jeffery, John Zeisel, Oshin Vartanian, Eve Edelstein, Erika Borella, Elisabetta Canepa, Alessandra Micalizzi, and Chiara Ionio provided great support, backing scientific protocols to measure potential positive responses for users. We are going to reopen enrollments for the 2025 Edition next April. In the meantime, we are strengthening the course, modules, and targets, extending the faculty, and starting a collaboration with a neuroscience lab. #neuroscience #architecture #wellbeing #health

Why are green spaces in our cities so crucial? Why do we seek so intensively natural features in our surroundings? This afternoon, at our NAAD course at Università Iuav di Venezia, we are going to explore the answer to these questions with Bill Browning by Terrapin Design US, Alberto Giuntoli by Bellesi&Giuntoli, landscape studio from Florence, and with Andrea Bulloni by LAND. Biophilia, namely the love for life, is a common ground from which we should always begin to investigate how cities should work. It is undoubtedly not the only one, but surely one of the pillars of a responsible way to design. #Neuroscience is paving the way to precisely comprehend how this would be a healthy approach.

Today marks the end of the first week of the third module of the NAAD Master in Venice. We mainly focused dweling, ranging from #socialhousing, elderly and #studentshousing, and cities design. Thanks to the panelists who attended, we had the opportunity to address these topics from many points of view: - on Tuesday 14 May, Alessandra Micalizzi, Roberta Albiero (Iuav), Claudia Mari (DEA Capital) spoke to us about SOCIAL HOUSING, - on Wednesday 15 May, Clara Rius (AHEAD), John Zeisel, Michele Brunello (PCMR) illustrated #ELDERLYHOUSING, - on Thursday 16 May, Pierluigi Sacco (UNI Chieti), Jagan Shah (India), Cleo Valentine (Cambridge UK) came to talk about WELFARE & WELLBEING, - and on Friday 17 May, on STUDENTS HOUSING, we worked with Frank Uffen (The Social Hub), Sara Magliano (Zelo), Elisabetta Tagliente (Relife) and Massimo Alvisi (AlvisiKirimoto). - to finish, today, Monday 20th of May, Benedetta Corso and Armando Ricca (Prelios SGR) will explain the Social Return of Investment. It has been a terrific week of investigation about the intersection of neuroscience, architecture, finance, with the social dimension.

#Biennale of Art 2024, in #Venice. Last Saturday, we presented at Giardini di Sant'Elena, Central Pavillion, #NAAD thesis, and launched a debate about #arts and #architecture liaison, all this focused through our #neuroscience-made lenses. Komal Chokshi, Camila Fagnani, Valentina Perazzolo, Maria Carmela De Angelis, Maria Zauner, and Redon Softa introduced four theses: about Mykolaiv main square rebuilding, on autism and dwellings, a children's ward into a hospital, and how to manage Alzheimer disease through design. Thank Suchi Reddy and Eve Edelstein. In the last part of the session, we nourished a debate on the relationship between art and architecture. How can art enrich architectural design, and how should places' human sensorial experience drive this relationship? These have been some of the questions raised by the discussion. Thank to Biennale Session for the precious support! #architecture #health #art #beauty #wellbeing #IUAV

Join us at the Biennale in Venice, NAAD, with Eve Edelstein and Suchi Reddy, as we delve into the fascinating realm of how neuroscience can shape future design perspectives. Saturday, April 20th, former NAAD students will present the thesis design proposed in the last edition of the post-graduate course. Komal Chokshi will share her design for Kharkiv's main square in Ukraine. Maria Carmela De Angelis, Valentina Perazzolo, and Maria Zauner will explain their interventions to enhance indoor rooms in a hospital, while Camila Fagnani will illustrate how to take care of autism in dwelling design. At the end, Redon Softa will present a design for elderly houses and patients affected by Alzheimer's disease. Giardini di Sant'Elena, Central Pavillion room F, at the 13.00. Thanks to Biennale Session for the precious support.

NAAD's incoming week of classes at Iuav University Venice will be a delicious course. Many friends, among the best professionals, scholars, and professors focused on our efforts to ground an evidence-based approach to design, will be with us. On Monday, the 15th, Andrea Pinotti, Angela Mengoni, and I will explore the connection between visual arts, architecture, and emotions. On Tuesday 16th, we embark on a captivating journey into the urban design field with Bob Condia, Kate Jeffery, and David Seamon. Together, we will uncover the intriguing ways in which individuals shape their behavior in urban environments. On Wednesday, the 17th, Vittorio Gallese, Juhani Pallasmaa, and Harry Mallgrave will explore architecture and embodiment, namely why we need to empathize with rooms. On Thursday, the 18th, Mark Hewitt and Michael Arbib will study how architectural affordances permit us to attune our brains to architectural settings. As we wrap up the week on Friday 19th, we bring our focus back to the scale of cities. Alan Penn, David Sim, and Oshin Vartanian, all experts in urban planning and design, will guide us in understanding why it's crucial for us, as professionals, to prioritize human needs in our work.
