Instituto Alok supports the construction of AYVÚ Records – the first music studio within an indigenous village in Brazil. The studio is located in the Francisco Horta Barbosa Indigenous Reserve – Jaguapiru and Bororó villages (city of Dourados/MS). AYVÚ means SOUND… an ancestral sound.
The purpose is to provide the Brô MC’s group with the possibility of creating and producing their own music with autonomy and adequate structure for capturing voice and instruments.
Until then, the group worked in a small studio in the home of one of its members.
The project’s objectives are:
- to promote Guarani rap workshops for young indigenous people from the Jaguapiru villages
and Bororó, located in Dourados – MS; - contribute to the autonomy and income generation of the group members;
- consolidate a space that respects the culture, language and ways of life by the Guarani and Kaiowá peoples;
- support the development of socio-educational actions aimed at Guarani and Kaiowá indigenous youth; and,
- enable the creation of a Guarani and Kaiowá community radio, coordinated by the Bro MCs group.
About the Brô MCs:
Bruno Vn, Clemerson Batista, Charles Peixoto and Kelvin Mbaretê form the first indigenous rap group in the country and are part of DJ Alok’s authorial album (to be released – 2022). Produced by Fabiana Fernandes, the group is a pioneer in the representation of native peoples in the Hip Hop Culture, with striking lyrics, sung in Guarani and Portuguese.
Indigenous Rap is like a powerful arrow that hits all of society. Topics of great social impact are sources of inspiration for the group, such as the demarcation of lands, the resistance of indigenous culture and the hope of a fairer world. Because it is a movement (hip hop) coming from the peripheries and loaded with transformative responsibility, rap music becomes the artistic tool for the group express the reality of its people. Reality that has been silenced for centuries.
Formed by four young people from the Guarani Kaiowá ethnic group, from the Jaguapiru and Bororó villages, located in the municipality of Dourados – Mato Grosso do Sul, the group carries the ancestry and strength of the indigenous community.
With 13 years of experience, Brô MCs has presentations that range from assemblies of indigenous communities, to TV shows, as well as partnerships with national artists, participation in feature films, concerts at schools, universities, national festivals, an European tour. In 2022 the range of voice and the power of speech will reverberate on the stage of the biggest music festival in the world, Rock in Rio and through Alok’s album.
Even with all this pioneering spirit and long trajectory, the group always had a lot of difficulty in producing their songs, since they never had any sponsorship for their musical production and creation. It is also very difficult to move to other studios, resulting in the production in 13 years of career of a single DEMO CD made in 2009.
