Founded with the purpose of enlightening the world to make it a better home for a fair, happy, and sustainable living, the Alok Institute is a life purpose for the artist who, in 2022, was elected as the 4th best DJ in the world. “I hope that this achievement awakens in people what it awakens in me: the desire to contribute positively, impacting others in some way“, said Alok on the occasion.
The creation of the institute (December 2020) expresses, in the field of social transformation, the same professionalism, authenticity and motivation in which he, one of the most listened-to Brazilian artists globally, marks his presence in the music scene, game shows, and interactions on social media. Alok is included in the Bloomberg Línea’s 500 Most Influential People in Latin America and, among Brazilian artists, is one of the greatest philanthropists. For his social work, he received the Judiciary Order of Merit in the rank of Grand Officer from the Superior Labor Court.
The ongoing exchange with a sea of people from different generations and social classes deepens Alok’s ongoing commitment to those living in vulnerability and those fighting against inequality. His responsibility and civic awareness led him to the United Nations General Assembly (2022 and 2023) where he launched the project-movement “The Future is Ancestral” and, alongside indigenous thinkers, has been alerting to the urgency of promoting and defending the rights of indigenous peoples to occupy multiple territories in contemporary society. In 2023, during the Cannes Film Festival, for his alliance with indigenous peoples, he was honored with the Best Achievement Award (awarded by the Better World Fund and Amazon Alliance Fund).
Even before the formal establishment of the Alok Institute, donations, royalties transfers and the mobilization of people and partner brands for social action were already common (see “The Path of Solidarity” on this website).
