In response to the growing sophistication of cyberattacks, on November 1, 2023, the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) updated its regulations to 23 NYCRR Part 500 on securing customer information and protecting information technology systems.
In order to be compliant with these new amendments under banking law, insurance law or financial services law, businesses operating in New York will be required to track asset inventory and provide device management, as well as cover lifecycle (end-of-life, EOL) management and vulnerability management. New York’s updated amendment is just the latest in regulation efforts to drive down risk within organizations, whether or not they are financial institutions.
