At Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, we used to do a Wealth Creation Study every year under the guidance of Raamdeo Agrawal. Rohit Krishna wanted nothing but to break into the PE/VC world, after he qualified as a CA in 2011. Unfortunately, many funds turned him down for being too young. Fast forward to 2017 – he co-launched WEH Ventures with a Fund 1 of ₹20 Crores. It wasn't exactly easy to convince the investors. The boom in exits in India stands in stark contrast to the rest of the world. The best news is that the exits are broad-based coming from half from IPOs, and a quarter each from secondaries and IPOs. "The big picture: The Indian exit boom is thanks to a few factors, namely favorable macro conditions and investor-friendly government policies, GPCA says. Plus, the rise of retail investors has boosted the public markets, Indian corporate acquirers have been active, asset managers have adopted continuation funds, and the rupee has been stable." A significant milestone on the Sarvagram journey and we are very excited to continue our support to the stellar team. When we invested in 2022, we saw a distinctive company which was serving an unaddressed segment in a very large market i.e middle class households in rural India. The narrative around rural financing has primarily focused on farmers and low-income populations. However, there's a huge gap in addressing the needs of the aspirational rural middle class—the 80-100 million households with annual incomes ranging from ₹3-5L, spread across multiple income sources. This demographic is eager to improve both their income levels and quality of life, yet their financial needs have often gone unmet. Mohit Gulati launched ITI GO Fund I worth INR 62 Cr in 2018 in partnership with the Investment Trust of India (ITI). The financial services conglomerate is led by Sudhir V 👇 The fund has performed well in the past five years, investing in 22 startups and returning half the capital to investors. Gulati is working on his next endeavour, ITI Growth Opportunities Fund II, which has a corpus of INR 200 Cr and a greenshoe option of INR 100 Cr. ITI GO Fund I has an IRR of 33% and a DPI ratio of 0.45, while four portfolio companies have seen more than 3x valuation markups. The Fund II has a corpus of INR 200 Cr and a greenshoe option of INR 100 Cr, of which INR 80 Cr has already been raised. While the fund’s core focus areas were consumer internet, healthtech, edtech and the new-age economy, it also invested in aerospace, agritech, fintech, electric vehicles and enterprisetech.
