This has been in works from by PSBs from 2018, first was PSB Loans online , OCEN, added to that Jansamarth for agri loans, PSB Alliance for Supplychain finance and last few months ULI - Unified Lending Interface for agri, MSME and consumer loans . do we need more ? We see that technology is ahead but credit models are outdated they rely on yearly balance sheet data not cash flow what was envisioned by OCEN , outdated credit models are blockers for MSME credit flow ! banks have not changed their loan products , credit , underwriting policies 5-6 levels of approval hierarchies for decades , they ask for collateral for CGTMSE schemes and personal guarantees to tie up promoter and founders of startup’s and MSMEs. What we need is financial profiling of MSMEs , a digital financial identity on blockchain for MSMEs , with standardised document and data checklist, work flows neutralised business rules and credit rules so that MSME are loan ready ! Building for banks by banks has been problem , we have build technology and credit / loan models for the borrowers , to meet 60 mln MSMEs and 100-200 mln more unregistered gainfully self employed people and households !

It’s a Friday and RBI is back with new announcements! Key ones pertaining to the digital payments and FinTech ecosystem include: 🔜 1. Digital Payments Intelligence Platform: The RBI has proposed setting up a digital payments intelligence platform that will mitigate payment fraud risks by harnessing advanced technologies. A committee has been set up to examine the feasibility of setting up a digital public infrastructure for Digital Payments Intelligence Platform. ➡ Implication: After robust adoption of digital payments across the country in the last few years, the Government’s next focus area is fostering a ‘safe and secure’ digital payments ecosystem and minimising fraudulent transactions – customer safety is a clear priority. A DPI for such a platform – which will harness advanced technologies to mitigate payment fraud risks sounds very ambitions, but promising. The Committee’s recommendations will guide the way forward – keenly watching out for developments on this front. 🏦 2. Fastag, National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), and UPI Lite wallet to be enabled with auto-replenishment facility: The RBI has proposed inclusion of recurring payments without a fixed periodicity, such as replenishment of balances in Fastag, NCMC, and UPI Lite wallet etc., into the e-mandate framework (currently limited to recurring payments with fixed periodicity). Under the framework, an automatic replenishment facility will be triggered when the balance in Fastag or NCMC or the UPI Lite wallet falls below the threshold amount set by a consumer. ➡ Implication: Here again, 'customer convenience' seems to be the focus. In the Payments Vision 2025 document, the RBI has explicitly focused on customer centricity in its approach, and this is evident in these new announcements. Hi All Need to raise a point here with the RBI for clarification .Recently it's seen that many customers have raised chargeback complaints via the online portal RBI BO for transactions which are more than 360 days in case of MICRO ATM(AEPS) withdrawal they have done. Now the BO rule says they can raise till one year but the condition is after getting the revert from RE or if they did not get revert within 30 days from the date of complaint . They can't raise it on BO directly without raising it with RE first . But these complaints are raised by the BO to the Acquirer banks and the Acquirer banks forwards it saying they need customer declaration to reject the same or else it will be debited to the Corporate BC. How fair is this the compliance team just does a postman job to forward and put pressure as they are anyway at the upper hand to debit the amount , do they even understand how much days it will take to earn that amount the poor BC succumbs to the pressure and pays from his pocket denting his revenue which is already the lowest . There are clear guidelines from NPCI saying first 90 days for raising chargeback and then 60 days post 90 for good faith . So what this guideline means if this is what the BO RBI team escalates . This is a common issue to all the FI BC's can we have a clear guideline or the present one is misinterpreted due clarity issues and the pressure is on . Would like the authorities of NPCI /RBI followed with other fintech leaders to explain and guide on such practices .Specially from the Acquirer banks who just don't want to understand the guidelines . These impact the revenue and there is a leakage in the system which over time can erode revenues with the very low margins the Corporate BC's earn in this business. In a recent address, Swaminathan J, Deputy Governor of the RBI, flagged critical issues that fintech lenders need to address: 📌 Digital Lending vs. Recovery Tactics: While the loan sanctioning process has become highly digitized, the deputy governor pointed out that effective loan recovery still requires a “feet on the street” approach—emphasizing empathy over aggression. The risk lies in many fintech platforms offering small-value loans to customers with poor credit profiles and then using aggressive recovery tactics that can sometimes cross ethical lines. 📌 Privacy Concerns: One of the most alarming practices highlighted is the invasion of customer privacy. The RBI's action forcing lenders to go slow on unsecured lending could impact a bunch of mid-sized NBFCs, who have built their business on such loans. An analysis of public disclosures of balance sheet lenders like InCred Capital, DMI Finance, Ugro Capital and the likes show that these platforms have grown their books exponentially on the back of unsecured consumer loans. P2P like BNPL is abused and overdone , hence attracts stricter regulations , world wide it’s already a stretcher case.. esp in US and China .. P2P Model of NBFC best suits for grants , No interest loans and low interest social lending , where purpose is More important than profit or risk Return , Rang De has been best example of this ! any other commercial model P2P becomes quasi banking, quasi lending like NBFC when you have to assume risk , place FLDG , build risk reserves .. This might be better placed under money lenders act of the states , not RBI .. RBI is going after all forms which violate regulatory intent to support Credit inclusion but not quasi commercial enterprises of lending , credit cards , BNPL and lapses in AML guidelines! Innovation within regulatory framework of RBI is the way forward ! India should not go China and US way evolve P2P to purpose of credit inclusion at lower economic groups not commercial level .. We already have best P2P in Chits and Curries , under state Chit Acts ! This in existence for last 10 centuries and has strong presence in South and West India ! 🇮🇳

Completely agree . The amount of data Aggregation based services being offered is immense . However the requirement is to reduce the conventional bottlenecks of traditonal checks ( credit score index application for different sectors and geographies - needs to be customized to enable lending rather than preventing ) The prism for assessment needs a review with a specific aim of reducing friction which prevents accessability to lending options for marginal farmers . Incorporation of grass root level NGOs as validators will be worth considering .

Why is RBI concerned on Micro-finance Lending in UP and Bihar The RBI's concerns regarding microfinance lending practices in Bihar and UP raise red flags in the industry, given the potential risks associated with massive lending to subpar borrowers. CRIF India Highmark's data for FY24 reveals that nearly 10% of microfinance borrowers in these regions have loans from three or more lenders, indicating a worrisome trend that demands attention. Notably, Bihar and UP currently contribute over 25% of the total microloan AUM in the country, underscoring the significance of these regions in the microfinance landscape. The infamous Andhra Pradesh Crisis in 2010 stemmed from reckless lending practices by MFIs, serving as a cautionary tale for the industry.
