A whopping 92% of Indian organizations reported breaches last year, largely blaming the cybersecurity skills gap. Additionally, 80% acknowledge that this gap escalates their cyber risks. John Maddison , Chief Marketing Officer at #Fortinet, stresses the need for a comprehensive strategy to tackle this issue. "Organizations must adopt the right security technology, upgrade skills through training, and build a cyber-aware workforce," he explained. Fortinet aims to train one million people in cybersecurity by 2026 and is on track, having already educated nearly half a million.

Large companies will have 'security & privacy' as key focus area, with the relevant resource, including the budget, allocation across levels - right from having a designated CISO, DPO and likewise, whereas it shall be an add-on at most of the SMEs. The required depth of expertise and ownership shall be deliberately missing until something amiss. The IT support personnel shall be playing the security admin role too. The priority is to define security accountability at all levels, as with the required training & awareness too. Culturally too, security should be made a business priority in driving adherence to the laid out measures, any time.

As per latest Global Cyber Capability Index (GCCI) , India stands 10th position globally in terms of adherance towards Cybersecurity Commitments. In India, Cyber securities are only a matter of concern when a financial transaction is involved, govt agencies responsible for this are also taken seriously only when financial systems like banking and allied departments are involved. Because of this mentality, the cyber attack was made on AIIMS New Delhi, and other state data centers where the data from a government point of view is not so important as it does not have financial matter. On the other hand, more than 1000 cases per day of financial fraud are happening, which is not a serious matter of concern. as it takes months to revert a part of amount for only less percentage. The awareness about cyber security to common people is also not being popularized in a huge level as a result these frauds happen. The surveillance before cyber fraud is also not properly monitored, hence if a person reports within the timeframe of cyber fraud is also not reverted. Manpower who are responsible for preventing cyber-attacks are also very limited and fluctuates as a result the person has to start the system from scratch.
