The Power of Presence: A Valuable Lesson from a Temple Visit Yesterday, I had a lovely thought provoking experience with my son Neil at a temple. After paying his sports fee, we walked to a serene temple and sitting area. As we left, my son pointed out something that left me speechless. "Look, Papa. This view speaks a thousand words." Everyone in the temple, including the priest, was glued to their mobile phones. The Day I Witnessed the Power of CPR Today, as I wrapped up my day in Varanasi, an incident occurred that left a lasting impact on me and reaffirmed the importance of knowing CPR. I was waiting at a renowned endocrinologist’s clinic, accompanied by my colleagues—ME, AM, and RM- when a frail woman, likely in her late 50s, entered the clinic with the support of her husband and daughter. She appeared to be in significant discomfort, struggling even to walk. Moments later, as I was on a call, I heard the heart-wrenching cry of a young girl. I rushed to the scene and found the same woman lying on the ground—unresponsive, stiff, her eyes open but not blinking. The panic in the room was palpable, and everyone feared the worst. Without a second thought, I asked Amit, our Regional Manager to help clear the crowd and immediately began performing CPR. I worked continuously for five minutes, and during that time, the doctor arrived and encouraged me to continue. Slowly but surely, her heart started beating again. She was revived and rushed to the hospital for further care. This was the first time I had performed CPR in a real-life situation, and it was a moment I’ll never forget. What stood out to me was how vital those few minutes were. Had I not known CPR or hesitated, the outcome could have been tragic. This incident is a powerful reminder that knowing CPR is not just a skill—it’s a responsibility. You never know when you might need it to save a life. Creating a #patientengagement strategy that enables qualitative and quantitative collection from diverse & representative groups of patients, can provide a lot of valuable information. Roundtables and interviews can provide a lot of detailed qualitative  #insights and #experience information, whilst larger-scale quantitative surveys can be used to scientifically validate these views across the wider #patient and #caregiver population. #PatientCentric strategies should include both, and be designed to collect #insights throughout the R&D, Pre-Launch and Post-Launch lifecycle.

It was through a post by Vikas Dandekar yesterday that I learnt of Glaxo's 100 years in India. And for a company that old, I don't expect them to have a database of all their past employees but it was nice to read Vikas' post for the wave of nostalgia that overcame me. Discounting a six-month stint with a Ford Foundation-promoted NGO, #GlaxoIndia was my first real job. Then in my very early 20s, stepping into the formality of a large organisation was as daunting as it was comforting because there were policies and processes for everything right down to the kind of mugs you were served coffee in to the washrooms you used, all demarcated by levels. It was a strictly 9 to 5 job - working anytime after meant getting a series of approvals that you would rather not go through the hassle of. All my team members, barring the admin, were in their late 40s to late 50s. It was a time without the internet, without emails, without even faxes - telexes and telephones and, of course, postal services were our primary form of communication with others. But I could not have asked for a better organisation or a better team to begin my career in. The #PR department at Glaxo was one of the best of its kind at the time, doing amazing work that won us accolades and recognition for being a best-of-its-kind company across different attributes. All that many of my fraternity talk today about as the evolving streams of PR and #communications, we were already doing that then...and even more. And I had such a brilliant opportunity to learn from the best, not just about PR but also about the corporate world, and art and culture and more. I owe so much of who I am today to those formative years at Glaxo and my first manager, Mrs Jane Swamy (who I have written about here https://lnkd.in/gPRya2j). My three years at Glaxo (and this was before the foods division was hived off) saw us go through three name changes; the first Board Meeting of Glaxo outside of the UK; the launch of a world no 1 billion dollar drug; our CSR (that I also led) feature in a global Glaxo film and so much more. It's so amazing to have been a part of a 100-year journey in India. The two images illustrate what I've shared above - an innovative corporate brochure that was done in a very unconventional A5 (I think) size but was outstanding in treatment and content, and my first job description, so focused and clear. #firstjob #CorpComm
