When you are entering a competitive market, brand positioning is an essential tool unless you wish to beat by pricing. Elements like brand identity, symbols, color pallate & most importantly positioning doesn't require budgets but deep understanding on "how" you wish to be different. Examples - You want to position around "Being one with nature" or "Mighty & Gentle" Once this is decided "distribution" of this positioning at scale will require budgets. So essentially the journey starts with creativity & then with budgets depending on your revenue goal. Worry less about budgets & focus more on differentiating your brand from others. #brandpositioning

INDIAN ADVERTISING REPORT IS OUT : 1.2 LAKH CRORES IN 2024 The latest IPG Mediabrands #advertising forecast report states that with India growing at 11.8% it is the fastest growing market globally Contrary to some of the other reports they peg that the largest driver for this growth which is digital would be ₹57,757 Crores and which should be about 47% of the overall. There’s always a little difference between some of these research reports, while the overall thought is still similar India will still continue to be a market with close to 50% on traditional #media and that’s twice the size of say the US or APAC as a market. With this year having a fair amount of cricket, the general elections television has continued to be a great option for #brands As per the details in the report, within #digitalmarketing spends its still search and social that have the largest chunk while there’s a massive growth in video formats too Do believe that with more smart TV’s also penetrating into the market with their aggressive pricing and tons of content being created for #streamingvideo platforms there should definitely be this continual growth in this domain and the growth through #ecommerce as a medium too And while all these growth numbers look promising, for many of us who would have been at Goafest a few weeks ago, may have been part of the Jury and witnessed the close to 4000 entries this year, what is definitely worth understanding is that there’s a massive number of new age advertising and marketing agencies that have come in and unlike global markets where it’s still the large holding groups that dominate, this rise of various independent agencies is unstoppable and we’re going to see a lot more of these, and many of them beginning to work with big global brands too Reports : Courtesy IPG Mediabrands

Radio, Are You Listening? Jagdeep Kapoor was recently interviewed by Shanta Saikia of ADGULLY about whether 730 new FM Radio channels in 243 new cities and small towns in India will be a viable proposition in the long run. According to Jagdeep Kapoor, Founder, Chairman and MD, Samsika Marketing Consultants, “The penetration of private radio channels deeper into Indian cities will also lead to the penetration of brands and advertisers through this mass medium.” Shedding light on the current state of the private FM radio industry in India, Mr. Jagdeep Kapoor added, “There is less internal competition and more external competition. As customers get used to streaming apps on their phones and even in their cars, private radio competes for attention share with both audio and audiovisual competitors. ▶ But the key differentiator that Radio can leverage is that it is ‘Live’ and that it is ‘Alive’. ▶ It is Live unlike preset playlists or even albums on a streaming app, and it is alive because it has a local RJ who may be much more interesting than just listening to tracks back to back.” Similarly, when it comes to the strong focus on regional and local, Jagdeep Kapoor says, "▶ Local private radio content always generates local stars, celebrities and helps highlight local issues. ▶ When the cities increase, the RJs, the artists, the shows and even the Brands will have a local flavour because of the nuances of each city’s culture, issues and taste. ▶ Vocal for Local is literally the mantra for radio, which is the perfect platform to be vocal about local culture, topics and tastes.” Sharing his view, Jagdeep Kapoor further highlights that the key issues to be addressed in private FM radio are: ▶ differentiate with content in the age of streaming apps, ▶ show what true radio and spoken word content is capable of in a live setting, in a way that can compete with podcasts and streaming apps. He says, "Listeners aren’t attracted to technology or platforms, they are attracted to content. And if the content is good, their ears will gravitate towards that RJ or channel, irrespective of whether it’s on Radio or on streaming apps or podcasts."
