UPI Circle: A New Frontier in "Delegated Digital Payments" The National Payments Corporation Of India (NPCI) is piloting a game-changing feature called #UPICircle with leading payment apps such as Amazon Pay Google Pay PhonePe and #BHIM. This feature enables delegated payments, where users can authorize others, such as children, senior citizens, or household staff, to make transactions from their UPI-linked account within a secure and trusted network. UPI Circle could significantly enhance the utility of UPI in households where a single account holder manages finances, allowing greater flexibility for children or elderly parents to make essential purchases safely. Use Cases and Impact: UPI Circle opens new avenues for use cases like- 1. Junior college students making cash-free purchases using their parents' UPI accounts. 2. Housemaids shopping on behalf of their employers. 3. Drivers filling fuel using the vehicle owner's UPI account. These scenarios cater to young consumers and senior citizens, expanding the reach of UPI beyond its current 300 million users. According to industry reports, NPCI aims to onboard more active users from these demographics, positioning UPI Circle as a major growth driver in the digital payments ecosystem. Security and Fraud Prevention With the rise of digital payment fraud, particularly targeting vulnerable groups like children and seniors, the UPI Circlefeature prioritizes security.
