I faced rejections in 4 interviews with Google, Udaan, Freshworks, and Postman: 👉🏼 The Google recruiter highlighted that my DSA code quality needs improvement. 👉🏼 The Udaan recruiter noted a lack of proper design patterns. 👉🏼 The Postman recruiter mentioned that my API modeling fell short. 👉🏼 The Freshworks recruiter pointed out redundant data schema and a failure to account for anomalies. #Paytm employees have taken to the Ministry of Labour and Employment after their unfair layoff without any proper severance package. We all have been reading the brutal layoffs news for the past 2 years; one where the CEO just shows up on the Zoom call to fire 80% of the company or where security guards show up after a conference and employees are escorted. In some cases, they find a legal loophole by forcing you to admit that there was a performance issue and putting you in PIP and thereby crushing your self-confidence and then saving some money by not paying their dues after firing you. There are companies that treat their employees like trash and expect the general public to buy the narrative of "We are a family". If an employee absconds a company then it is frowned upon in the industry, the companies scare you with a bad relieving letter or failed background checks in the next company and yet these same companies face no consequences when they happily ruin the financial and mental status of their so-called "family members". With privatisation on the rise it is high time that we all voice for better labour laws in #India so that people can work peacefully. "Who will win today?" Well, you definitely won't. . . . . Salaried employees, especially the techies, are the ones paying the most amount of taxes. For people like me, 3-4 month of salary directly goes to the government. Now, let's see how important we are to the governments. During the election campaigns, no party promised anything for us. No relaxation in taxes, no talks about labour laws, no job security, no talks about improving education system. In the last few years, there have been so many layoffs and most of the layoffs weren't due to employee's performance. Companies have laid off employees for no reason at all. While severance was given in some cases, some companies have forced employees to resign. Is it ethical? Did the government interevene? This year, so many companies have revoked their offers. First students were promised job opportunity and when they accept the offer and reject other potential offers they were getting, their offers are revoked. Revoking students' offers around the end of their course increases the stress on them and leaving them unemployed atleast until they find a job on their own. Neither the company, nor the university is willing to do anything for them. Is it ethical? Did the government intervene? Companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, etc. have been paying similar salaries to students for the last 15 years. Apparantely you are immune to inflation if you join them. As an employee, they will get 20K/month after spending lacs in their education. It it ethical? Did the government intervene? Studnets have to spend lacs on their education because government seats are very limited and even the government colleges are getting more and more expensive. It it ethical? Did the government intervene? Taxation in India is so high. Through various forms, government is extracting money from the salaried middle class : Income tax, GST, Road Taxes, Capital gains tax, etc. Inflation keeps getting higher but the exemption limits don't change, the tax slabs don't change. Many ways through which the salaried employees could have saved taxes are being discontinued or the limits are being reduced. If your company fires you, there is no government but if somehow you get another job after putting in a lot of hard work, you again have to pay taxes. Is it ethical? Did the government intervene. In the end, I just want to share that no matter who wins the election today. You and me will always be the losers. You and me are the ones who are honestly contributing to the growth of this nation but the government of this nations simply don't care about us. Never have, never will. Jai Hind!

The waiting lists are rapidly moving, and I have received many texts about which college to choose among these prestigious ones. This is one of the paramount decisions a candidate needs to make. I thought of creating a framework to encapsulate the critical factors before making any final decision. 📅 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁-𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥?: The usual trend is that the older, the better. The alumni base of an older institute is usually larger than that of a newer one. Additionally, older B-schools have established a strong brand, reputation, facilities, and infrastructure. While this tag may offer many short-term benefits, in the long run, it's the skills that truly matter. Do your analysis and give appropriate weightage to these five factors. Then make a final decision. Don't fall for the polls in the groups, as the responses you will get might be highly biased. Discuss with your family and mentors before making the final choice. Today, I’ll explain to you how exactly Uber gives you the best ETA for your arrival and departure, the minute you book the cab, even though it handles 1M+ requests/second Oh, and I’ll do that in just 18  sentences (feel free to count them :) [1] Uber processes ride requests by mapping city roads as a graph, where intersections are nodes and streets are edges, enabling efficient route calculations. This approach allows Uber to visually represent the city’s road network and prepare for quick pathfinding based on real-time conditions. [2] On this graph, Uber looks for the shortest path between your pickup and drop-off locations to calculate your ETA. The system must account for the actual travel distance, as well as traffic data, road closures, and other dynamic factors that may influence route choice. [3] Dijkstra’s algorithm is traditionally used for finding shortest paths in a graph but is inefficient at scale due to its O(n log n) complexity. Uber, instead, partitions the road network into smaller regions, allowing for quicker calculations within each partition while ensuring scalability. [4] Precomputing the best paths within these partitions reduces the computational complexity, optimizing the ETA process from O(n²) to O(n). This ensures Uber can calculate ETAs in seconds, even as the road network expands or traffic conditions rapidly change. [5] Edge weights in the graph represent the actual time it takes to travel a road segment, factoring in real-time traffic conditions collected from millions of drivers and users. Uber continuously updates these edge weights to reflect the most accurate travel times possible. [6] To ensure the accuracy of your location and route, Uber uses map matching algorithms to correct for GPS inaccuracies, aligning your location to the closest road segment. This ensures that even if your GPS signal is slightly off, the app can still determine the correct route and ETA. [7] The Kalman filter, a widely-used statistical method, helps smooth out the GPS data to better predict vehicle movement, further refining the mapping process. Alongside this, the Viterbi algorithm is applied to match your GPS signal to the most likely road path, improving the overall accuracy of your location. [8] Uber’s system integrates these real-time traffic updates, map matching algorithms, and precomputed paths to provide highly accurate ETAs, often within minutes or seconds of variance. Even in fast-changing environments like busy city streets, the combination of these systems allows Uber to stay efficient. Recently I completed 10 yrs in the Software Industry ! I started my software journey as SDE-1 on 24-June-2014 and exactly 10 yrs later on the very same day 24-June-2024, guess what ? I got the offer from Confluent for the Staff SDE role. I believe in happy coincidences and this one definitely tops my list so far - will be cherished for a long long time. Harnessing the Power of Manifestation can be a great tool to achieve what you want but there's no simple trick. The only thing you can do best is to keep going. And the only way to go fast, is to go well. Interviews have become really challenging. Some companies are still stuck with typical Leetcode DSA problems and same old System Design questions while others have moved on and they really test your skills in a good way (and again you may find that easy or tough depending on your overall skillset). I never did crazy amount of leetcoding because there are better things in life to do but if you love leetcoding, please do; there's no harm. But do understand, it will never help you hop from SDE-1 to SDE-2 to Senior to Staff within or outside the company. Because the business coding is far different from your DSA coding and for getting promoted from level L to level L+1, it requires a lot of depth and breadth in your work and 10+ other things. While I can't write about those 10+ things in a single post today, I can only give you a flavour by saying - "When we hire Directors, we want them to be technically solid (one who can code) and when we hire Senior/Staff Engineers, we expect them to be leaders who can hone the skills of other people, lead them and showcase people management too or deal with different stakeholders and influence them, align them" For cracking Staff roles, you need to be super-solid with Multi-Threading (making a thread-safe distributed API, having a sound knowledge of semaphores, mutexes, condition variables, etc. and implement them with a running code within 40-45 min), Code Design (with the expectation that it runs in your IDE), System Design (HLD, LLD) and Technical Breadth and Depth (explain your projects to demonstrate scope, complexity/ambiguity, innovation, challenging status-quo and org-level or company-level impact). So, I'll start with Coding, I had implemented around 10+ Code Design Problems with Multi-Threading myself which runs on IDE timeboxing to 45 min such as - Rate Limiter, Router, LRU & MFU Cache (with multi-threading), Bounded Buffer problem (Producer-Consumer), IP Blocklister, etc. before going for interviews (might share them later on) and did some 225 odd leetcode questions just to get back to my coding speed (where I can code and run 2 Medium Complexity problems or 1 Medium + 1 Hard in 40-45 min). I come from a Layoff Batch 😞 (Tier-3 College) I didn’t receive a PPO from Amazon. I had to work a 10 AM to 7 PM shift 😬 (not counting the commute time) But despite that I never gave up. Shaw Group, Sprinklr, Zomato, Flipkart, Visa, Cisco, Superset, RagaAI Inc, UnifyApps, Nielsen etc, here's my take on common pitfalls for entry-level candidates. 1) 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐒𝐀: Today, companies expect candidates to excel in both software development and data structures/algorithms (DSA). It’s no longer "DSA vs. Development"—it’s about being strong in both areas. 2) 𝐉𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧: Avoid starting with a half-baked solution and trying to fix it later; you cannot always develop a solution on the fly. Having a clear picture of the solution at the start makes the implementation much faster. 3) 𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦: Imagine you almost completed your solution only to realise that you understand the question wrong; half of the time is gone; this will surely affect your mental state. 4) 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦-𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠: Share your thought process and explain how you arrived at your solution. It's as important as the solution being correct. 5) 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞: Ensure that your resume is tailored to the job description. Highlight the most relevant skills and experience to show that you’re a strong fit for the role. 6)𝐏𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐰-𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬: Many companies now focus on these areas for entry-level roles; few companies are even asking for high-level design from a fresher. 7) 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐬: Even if you are a top-rated coder across platforms like Codeforces, Codechef, Atcoder, or Leetcode, it's not necessary that you know the language in depth because we don't use many part of the language while solving DSA problems. 8) 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐝-𝐭𝐨-𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐃𝐢𝐝: When working on a project, we tend to focus only on our part of the work and treat the rest as a black box. 🚨 Swiggy Horror Story: ORDER NEVER DELIVERED! 🚨 Order ID: 182763837733736 Restaurant: Chickpet Donne Biryani House Order Time: August 16, 2024, 1:13 PM Delivery Time: August 17, 2024, 5:37 AM Imagine this: You place a lunch order at 1:13 PM, and Swiggy promises delivery in around 40 minutes. Perfect, right? Fast forward to 3:00 PM—still no food, my guest waiting, and me left in an incredibly embarrassing situation. After multiple failed attempts to contact the delivery partner and customer support, later in app, the delivery time was a shocking 150 minutes! And the kicker? My order finally arrived at 5:37 AM the next day—16 hours late! 😡. —AND GUESS WHAT? I NEVER EVEN RECEIVED THE ORDER! 😡 I have NO IDEA where my food went or who received it This is beyond unacceptable. As a long-time Swiggy user, I’ve never been treated so poorly, and I’m DONE tolerating such GROSS INCOMPETENCE. As a loyal Swiggy user, I expected much better service, and this experience has left me seriously questioning my future orders with them. Swiggy, this is a FAILURE on every level. When I joined BYJU'S, I used to fear a lot from task reviews but my manager Mansi Sharma supports me a lot thanx a lot ... 💯,Miss you team But now at Superwave media, I used to fear a lot from Code Reviews until my manager told me this. As a Software Developer, you can not push your code to production if it’s not reviewed.
