The meaning of ‘Executive Presence’ has evolved in the last few years. Comparing between 2012 and 2022 across the dimensions of Gravitas traits , Communication traits, and Appearance traits, while traits like Confidence and Decisiveness still hold importance, ‘Blue-chip pedigree’ is out!               Interesting to see how ‘Forcefulness’ has given way to “Listen to learn orientation’ and, how ‘Fitness and Vigor ‘ is more relevant than ‘Tallness’/Physical attractiveness… There’s focus on ‘Authenticity’, and ‘Inclusion’ and ‘Respect for others’ show up variously.     Though the sample for this HBR study for the top 6 most important leadership traits was US execs, the findings do resonate across broader contexts. #executivepresence #authenticity #inclusion #respect #HBR #leadersoftoday #leadersoftomorrow #leadership

Evolution of the #CHRO role in India is an insightful article. Of the trends highlighted in the article, two stand out and make me curious. Firstly, the rise of female CHROs is encouraging, but what is the underlying factor? Is it merit-based hiring or positions set out for women only? Additionally, we should deep dive into the impact of this trend on business performance. The quote, "CEOs and boards expect CHROs to be their proactive and strategic advisors, bringing a 'business ownership' mindset as opposed to focusing only on the HR agenda," should be a wake-up call for all #HumanCapital professionals. Another valuable insight is the underrepresentation of CHROs on #boards. The strategic value of Human Capital professionals goes beyond hiring and retention and is an untapped potential. 32 people !! That’s the size of the larges team I have handled. Leading talent management and Organization Development across 10 countries, alongside HR responsibilities for 4 countries, demanded a delicate balance between assessing organizational design and prioritizing business needs as an HRBP. I interacted with a diverse group spanning ages 23 to 52, including single parents and caregivers scattered across various time zones. Encouraging my team members to interact with senior leaders and present their recommendations empowered them to shine independently, ultimately establishing credibility with key stakeholders. This assistance in building credibility with senior stakeholders within the business proved advantageous to me in two crucial ways: 1. Streamlining decision-making and expediting solution delivery. 2. Cultivating a strong sense of ownership throughout the implementation process. Based on my experience managing remote teams with diverse needs and spanning different time zones, here are some valuable tips: 1. Build Trust: Build trust and rapport with team members through regular communication, feedback, and recognition of their contributions. 2. Empowerment: Provide support and empower team members to take ownership of their work. Encourage them to voice their ideas and concerns, and provide them with the resources they need to succeed. 3. Encourage Flexibility: Foster a culture of flexibility and understanding to accommodate the needs of team members in different time zones. Encourage autonomy and empower team members to manage their own schedules and prioritize tasks effectively. 4. Promote Inclusivity: Be mindful of inclusivity and make an effort to include team members from different time zones in discussions, decision-making processes, and social activities

Birthday Wishes: I am overwhelmed with the stream of wishes ( still it is continuing ) wishing me many happy returns of the day. I am one who believes in individually thanking each one of you. I have worked in senior positions in four different organizations. Receiving stream of visitors on birthdays and participating in birthday celebrations hosted by different departments/units/locations was part of professional compulsions (including hosting). Getting so much of wishes from ex colleagues, client organizations, well wishers and some professionals trained by me in different locations ( 980+ programs and therefore approximately 25000 trainees), College/School friends, relatives and prospective clients. is really encouraging. My family members want me to hang up my boots but I have decided to take a fresh guard for my onward training journey. Due to personal life exigencies, I am shuttling between Chennai & Mumbai quite frequently. Some times, it becomes a blessing in disguise not only to my clients in Chennai/Mumbai but also to Bangalore/Hosur and Hyderabad clients. 40+ years of experience is a boon, especially in disseminating my experience by way of practical solutions to complex questions raised during/after the training programs. Now the demand is increasing for our special programs like "Dealing with Ambiguity", "Managerial Courage", "Organizational Agility" and "Dream Team" Programs when compared to vanilla programs on Team, Leadership, Communication, Decision Making etc., My guarantee for effectiveness of training programs is not because of audacity of our long experience but because of our willingness for continuous learning. Applause.> That was Shekhar, the CEO of a large electronics firm wanting to make an impact globally with a suite of world-class products. Shekhar was confident they would be able to launch this product because the test results with proto were encouraging. They seem to have finally got it right. Meanwhile, back in their lab something else was happening. The first batch of the product was out. They made a few pieces of the "final" product for live testing. Under certain specific conditions, the camera frame developed static and that affected the performance. Pankti, the project lead, was terrified to know this. The initial reaction was panic and frustration. Now that the launch was announced, the pressure from upper management was immense. Instead of succumbing to the stress, Pankti decided to demonstrate resilience — a core aspect of emotional intelligence. She gathered her cross-functional team and encouraged open discussion about the issue. Pankti’s calm and collected demeanor inspired her team to brainstorm solutions rather than dwell on the setback. They worked long hours, often late into the night, troubleshooting and testing various fixes. Pankti’s perseverance paid off. Not only did they resolve the glitch in time for the launch, but the product was also more robust. It was well-received than initially anticipated. Her resilience turned a potential disaster into a triumph, and her team emerged stronger and more cohesive than ever. Reflecting on Pankti’s experience, I realized that resilience isn’t just about bouncing back from adversity; it’s about persisting with diligence and maintaining a positive outlook in the face of challenges. As someone who has had the privilege of leading several HR initiatives for a global workforce across multiple geographies, EMPLOYEE WELLBEING is a concept that has evolved far beyond its original scope as it has become multidimensional. We are no longer just talking about health benefits or gym memberships—wellbeing is multidimensional, covering physical, mental, social, spiritual, and financial health. WORK-LIFE BALANCE is one of the most important elements. Thought-Provoking Article in Hindustan Times. The Leaky Pipeline: Women are well represented at entry and individual contributor levels but drop significantly in management and leadership positions. This decline coincides with life stages where women face marriage and caregiving pressures, leading to higher attrition rates. The glass ceiling is cracking, but it's not shattering fast enough. While women's representation on boards is improving, we need more women in leadership roles across all sectors in India. The Companies Act of 2013 required certain classes of companies to have at least one woman independent director on their boards, as a result over the years, women's representation on boards has increased from 6% in 2013 to 18.3% in 2023. While SEBI's 2014 rules limits independent directors' tenures to two consecutive terms i.e. 10 years. The upcoming term expiry of tenures of 10 years, and the tenure limit approaches in 2024, a wave of new directors will need to replace many tenured ones, offering a unique opportunity for increased gender diversity on boards.
